AU & VST programming

Anyone into AU programming or vst programming?
been doing some research on a careerfield and programming audio software is kinda where im heading. so i figured learning how to program AU's would be a good place to start ( other than acctually learning C++ ). so wanted to know if anyone has experience.

vst programming makes more sense to me, as there are more tools available.

You will need some c++ chops to really make some headway, but you would better off looking at programs like synthedit or pd to begin with. PD lets you create your instruments and musical automata, whilst synthedit is a programming environment for creating vsts visually. You can use your own additional c++ code to enhance your synthedit creations if you want....

Lots of developers hang out at the KvR forums, so that might be a good place to start your journey.
