Audio Interface

Okay, first of all, this will sound VERY stupid but i'll post it anyways, So after getting alot of help here on FP I bought a new computer, software, midikeyboard and an audio interface, (I will purchase monitors when I get money, maybe end of the month).

The thing is, I don't even know why I bought an audio interface, I haven't used it yet, so what does it really do? Does it boost my overall sound from my speakers? Thanks for the help.

An audio interface will usually have better specifications than the built-in soundcard in your computer. That said, it will also provide you with inputs for your system, so that you can use a mic or an instrument to capture musical input or spoken words.

On the speaker side of things, it will provide outputs that will drive your active monitors or provide a signal to your amplifier for your passive monitors
