Yamaha HS 50 Bass??

I just bought a pair of yamaha hs50m monitors. I have to say, there is little to no bass in these. The mids/highs are outstandingly clear, but its unclear in the low end. I have 60 days to return/swap these monitors. Is anyone satisfied with these monitors for producing hiphop? Other monitors I should consider?

I just looked at the specs. 55-20,000 Hz.....which means there's nothing below 55Hz being transmitted by these speakers. Humans can hear from 20Hz-20,000Hz....approximately....You need a monitor which delivers the full range of frequencies. This is your problem. I wouldn't recommend anything that wasn't 20-20,000.

Make sure room control is on 0 and low cut is off. After that, its your room that makes it sound like that. Invest in treatment.
 
Thanks Trigga I just a pair of these myself but didnt set them up yet so thanks for the answer and thanks to the threadstarter for getting this questioned answered so I didnt have one in a day or so.

i dont agree with this. his monitors have a 5 inch driver. thats just not enough diameter to be able to properly play low end sounds.

Either buy the yamaha sub, or get 8 inch monitors

I'd keep them and add the sub later then some bass traps.
 
Ok so thats all great to know. Although I cannot financially swing an 8in monitor or the yamaha sub...

Any other 5in monitor that will eliver proper bass response. I feel like I made a huge mistake purchasing these.

(btw I produce hiphop

No 5 inch will produce the bass sound you need. You can either save up for a sub or sell the 50's and buy a cheaper pair of monitors (like the KRK rokit 8's).

This is great to know because they certainly did not tell this to me when I bought them. However I have 60 days to return/trade them in.

Can anyone recommend an 8 inch monitor of equal trade in value as the HS 50s? ($300 a pair)
 
i just got my hs 50's i love them but if your looking to add / hear more bass id recommend what "X" said add a sub or change monitors maybe u need the hs80's instead a friend of mine has those and is pretty satisfied with the sound he produces Rock i produce hip hop by the way

Are you using a sub with them?
 
Look for freq ranged and power.

You want at least 120W 40hz.

Higher watts and lower the freq the better. I've said this millions of times on this forum.
