Why do people pretend they don't know what "hiphop" brass is?

Just refer them to Jay-Z's "What More Can I Say".

I mean yes the same instrument can be used in many different genres, but we all know what people mean when they say "hiphop" brass... unless ur not into hiphop.

In hip-hop tracks, I think it really comes down to how the brass instruments are layered and presented, which can frustrate a lot of producers when trying to create their own tone.

Also, a lot of hip-hop producers just prefer to sample older records. I think it's great you're trying to create the sound yourself. So, thumbs up bud. :)

On one final note, there's a freeware synth created by DSK called "DSK Brass". Look it up and give it a shot. They have several other great plugins worth looking into, especially the "DSK Virtuoso", and I think you could use these and put them to great use.

For freeware synths, they provide some pretty solid sound quality too. None of that faux-crap stuff you'd expect from a lot of other freeware plugins. Give it a shot and tell us what you think!

The version of Halion that comes with Cubase has a few good Brass Sections that I use in my Beats.

+1 for Hypersonic. I would ask someone who owns Halion Sonic if there are any good Brass Section patches....i would assume there is but i dunno

I agree with this, I don't always use it though because I have a Yamaha Motif XS with dope brass :). Halion is pretty good though, can't use Hypersonic because I can only use legit software.

I love the Victory Brass in the Nexus Dance Orchestra Expansion...

Hypersonic and Nexus ... great option and i think the best option too

I used to use the Pro Kitz Gutta Em Brass soundfont but I got hypersonic 2 a few days ago and I think the brass is actually really good especially when layered

Yup I went all legal about a year 1/2 ago and never looked back! it's a whole other feeling knowing that you spent your hard earned $ on the software and OWN it. I also buy all of my drum samples. gives you a whole different mindset instead of having a bunch of free ish.
