dunno but i just copped the 240s off ebay for 70 bucks plus 10 for shipping brand new.... i'll let ya know my impressions.

Um I think Massive Mastering would put it best but don't by headphones for mixing or mastering. Studio monitors are more accurate by far than any headphones, especially when it comes to acoustic placement of the sound in the mix. Get yourself a nice set of speakers and a good amp. I'll leave the more developed answer to Massive cause he can give you more info about the cons all I can say is I've been told not to so I don't.

oh yeah i co sign, i wouldn't use headphones for full mixing , but for headphones in studio use they should be great, just remember what studio headphones are for (tracking/recording when you need your sound isolated) use your monitors for your mixing.

AKG headphones are the best to produce music....In the usa many studios are using it.. :) :)..because the quality of AKG´s are very good....

Look at ebay or anything else which one is cheaper and try both headphones in a shop...to get a impression.

mixing wise don't do it with headphone. for overall tracking and studio use 240's have always been a standard, but i don't go by the standard. i set my own trends...lol (sound like i'm puff on someone, anyways)

i became fond of the akg 270's but they don't sound to well imo.(nice iso though)
the best fitting, most comfortable headphones around have to be beyerdynamic dt770 Pro's IMO. they also have great isolation.
if i'm not using them in the studio, i'm using Eartools Rp22x's ( http://equationaudio.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=58 )
they're my main headphones for tracking...o and they sound rather well

the main issue with using phones for mixing is your stereo field can tend to be off, though if your specifically trying to do a "headphone album then it's cool)

put it this way, Scott Storch uses the AKG K240... nuff said... but, from personal experience also, i'd go with the AKG's... love em!

Go with the HD 280 Pros, I have the same ones and they are the best headphones I have ever had, or even used.. They have great soundquality and they actually cancel out noise, plus they suck to your head and are real comfortable.. plus they are a lot cheaper than most other studio phones, I picked mine up for $99..The only downside is they aren't super durable, but as long as you're just using them just for studio **** then they are the way to go..

Ive had my 240's for yers and they finally died on me 3 weeks ago...
They will be missed but they will be replaced asap!!!

Which brand earphone do you like?

Do you like Sennheiser CX500 or CX400II???

It's up to you man. I swear by the Sennheisers, my Dad swears by the AKGs. I know the Sennheisers well. He has been using 240s for 15 + years. It's totally up to you. Audition them, that's best.

The low end is a bit of a guessing game when mixing in the HD 280s. But the stereo field of the 240s is completely exaggerated and unrealistic compared to normal listening references.
