i read muslims are not allowed to play or hear music. hiphop is especially haram....

Yeah there are different levels of Islam, they vary from extreme to passive just as most religions do. I also remember hearing that in some parts of extremist Islam, followers were not allowed to look at pictures, paintings etc.... I don't know how true that is though but it would be weird to have never seen a painting or picture or anything like that.
 
I THINK IT ALL HAS TO DO WITH HOW YOU interpret the quran. some people feel like its allll music that shouldnt be heard or played, others feel like its just music that stears people away from the path that shouldnt be heard or played.

the fact that the quran can be interpreted in different ways makes it very interesting and controversial.
 
its with all religions i think. muslims, christians, jews, etc all in some way dont want to be associated with vulgar music, tv, etc...

i just look at this logically.

religion = a person who wants to be good person

to be a good person = dont swear or do bad activities

thus = if the persons religion doesnt allow him to swear or act in a wrong way (acording to his/her religion)..... then its common sence he he/she shudnt to be listening to or watching any bad stuff.

another example is fags

religion = teaches man that homo is bad

to be a good person = dont do homo stuff

thus = he/she doesnt watch or go to any homo gatherings or social events

The passage that people "interpret" (meaning one person interpreted it this way then all the sheeple followed along) says something like "restrain yourself from engaging in idle talk." I don't remember the exact quote.

The Qur'an also says "God gave you a mind, use it." unfortunately this passage is overlooked by 99.9% of muslims.

now to me, that original passage that people cite has nothing to do with music. it is way too broad to be interpreted in to meaning something specific like that. When you read the passage, what it is saying is once u start talking about nothing progressive or purposeful, u can get sidetracked from meditating on the things that can make u a better human, and that can snowball into u becoming lazy and never thinking about how to better your life, and you'll fall right back into the rat race that you worked so hard to get out of.

^ hey jersey. but considering Allah wants mankind to be better people and wants them not to commit sin..... wouldnt listening to 'modern' music contridict being 'a good muslim'? as it has vulgar stuff and the videos has obcenity?

afterall islam is about accumalting good deeds over bad deeds, so in short watching or listening to 'bad stuff' would lead to bad sins?

hope i dont come across as being rude. didnt mean to in any way bro. just would like opinions on this.

didnt know that. didnt cat stevens revert to islam, i dont think he fully stopped his music...but i think he changed the message of his music.

I don't rmember there being a rule against it, there are all sorts of forms of music that the newer generation listens to. I know most habits of western civilization are looked down upon tho, so u deff ain't gonna be makin any songs about booty rockin everywhere. But I have seen Rap videos, pop videos, rock bands, etc from out there.

we dont claim to be muslim.....so we arent "fake" muslims(as opposed to "real" muslims)...personally...i dont wanna be identified with muslims at all...the 5% are gods...not muslims.....

and the nation of islam rules are more restrictive than the rules of orthodox islam....

(just clearing up some misconceptions)

yea u'r right, but i think it's all wut u get out of the music. certain music i totally zone the lyrics out and focus on the beat (these days i find that to be the case more often.) other types of music i listen to the lyrics more, and usually those are songs that mean something to me. I think u can find something positive in everything in life.

Jay Z might've been talking about slinging drugs and banging broads on Reasonable Doubt, but that album, more than any other, makes me want to get out and get my hustle on (legally of course...)

so yea, u have to be conscious of what your listening to. also, from what i remember, that passage used a word like "avoid," (i used the word "restrain,") and that does not mean "under no circumstances..." it means "try not to do it." using words like that gives you flexibility, and says "don't worry if u do it, just be conscious and try to avoid it." in my opinion, how can something that you are told to try and avoid be considered absolutely forbidden? u just have to be careful.

lol honestly no i hadnt. never eaten bacon in my life lol. but thanks for that. but he is a 5 percenter... which i know islamic scholars dont even truely recognise (sunni)

saying your a GOD is SHIRK!! that is a major sin, which is the only sin that allah says that is unforgivable.

the whole declaration of a muslim is - ONLY 1 GOD

yeh i get u 100% jus to clarify bro im muslim myslef (sunni).
i just always look at any situations in life and think what would the prophet say or do?

i dont think he would be blastin some jayz and stuff. and i know the phophet is the perfect role model. but i get u wen u say it should be avoided. but im 100% sure i read once that the prophet Muhammad (pbuh) wanted to destroy every instrument in the world. thats how much he desliked it. but he did allow the playing of the duff (drum).

this is why i have for some time been trying to quit music... buts its hard lol plus u cant make any money from music because it would be considered haram lol.

bt the sacrafices u make in this life, shall be rewarded in the next inshallah

its only a sin if u are muslim...we dont abide by your rules....never claimed to either....

for us...islam is I Self Lord Am Master....I. S. L. A. M.

our ideology is rooted in african spirituality and not arabic spirituality...we just have some terms in common...

it's also shirk to commit suicide...but that dont stop yall.....
