How do i connect my turntable/mixer to my laptop?

I want to start sampling records but I don't know the correct way of connecting my turntable and mixer to my laptop.My laptop comes with a built in sound card and there is no line in. There is only headphone and mic openings. Can I connect my mixer to either one of those?
 
You could use the mic in, but i would definately suggest getting a new soundcard.
 
You could go buy a USB Sound Card like the one below. But if you want to use the onboard one then yes u could use the Mic in but the quality will not be all that great.

Turntable to Mixer

Mixer OUTS to Mic on Laptop

Now make sure your laptop is setup to record audio from the mic.
-Open up your volume control screen.
-Go To Options
-Go To Properties
-Click Recording
-Select Mic
-Set Volume

Record!!!

missdjcoley-cole I tried what you posted and it didnt work. My turntable is connected(phono line) to mixer correctly and the mixer is connect to the mic. I can't hear anything. I dont know whats wrong.Can anybody help me out?
 
get a interface (external soundcard for a laptop but most work with desktops too) u can find one that works via usb or firewire for not too much money. I use the firewire audiophile it costs $170 and its a great card with its own headphone jack 2 rca ins midi i/o spdif and 4 direct outs. From there u just connect the outs from ur mixer to the ins on the interface and ur set.
 
I may have to get a external card. I figured out how to record music from the turntable in cool edit but the problem now is that i can only hear the playback that i recorded but not the actullay music on my laptops speakers. How can i fix this?
 
ur gonna want an external card for better sound quality but technically u should be able to monitor via ur laptop speakers after recording into ur laptop but by default ur laptop will cut off the speakers while recording into itself i dont think there is a way to shut that off unless u have an external card
 
Hook up turntables to a Laptop

You really cannot do this, there is no jack for turntables on a laptop.
You will always need a pre-amp mixer to get the best sound.
You can hook your laptop to the pre-amp along with CD Decks, Turntables, MP3 Players and anything else.

If you want to DJ off a laptop get and Echo Indigo Sound Card and use BPM Studio. This is by far the best with an RC.
It is the least resource hog of any software out there and you can categorize you music quickly.

He IS using a mixer in between, though. The mic in should work, but chances are it'll sound pretty crappy.

I'd guess that your onboard soundcard isn't capable of recording and playback at the same time. You'll likely have to switch between the two, which comes with the recommendation that you get an external USB sound card to ease the pain.

Will make the whole business so much easier.
