Saintjoe hit me up at the airport bout the Beat Thang... he was at a hotel with the Beat Kangz and Rockwilder and got a chance to mess around with it... here's our convo on facebook:

opps my bad i mis read the post thought u had a vid done im suprised they neva let u put together a sneak vid of u using it since u already know how to get down due to using the software and that would make a nice preview for the site saint joe did.

but looking forward to this that machine sounds like everything ive always wanted from a setup in one unit and soft pads will be a welcome change from the rock hard mp pads
 
whatup jpeg lol, yeah man...I was supposed to get some video on the following day, Saturday...but our schedules conflicted.

I should have a test unit hopefully soon, and I will def make a video of it for sure.

It's looking like it will be a serious product, despite all the drama surrounding it lol.

I haven't had enough time to mess with it yet, I don't think it can be better because they aren't the same.

This is a hardware product, wheras Maschine is a integrated hardware/software product that can't be used without the software running on a laptop or desktop

The beat thang will be portable, yet still have the limitations of hardware like memory etc, that Maschine doesn't have because it uses the resources on the computer.

I anticipate liking both of them equally and wouldn't want to have to choose because they both do different things. I think Maschine will be more flexible simple because it's all software, without any limits that hardware has.

That said, I know the beat thang will get a lot of use because it's portable all in one, I don't need my laptop or computer to use it, so I don't have to be "in the lab" to make tracks.

I'll have more input once I'm able to get a test unit tho.

from my understanding the beat thang is iller then machine cos the thang can function in the same way as machine using the computer resources via the virtual software but obviously the machine software is very quick an intuitive.

but the fact that u have the option of using it as a controller and a stand alone makes it stand out.

but the maschine is very dope
 
i wouldn't say it's iller than maschine yo! lol...that has to be proven, maschine is the illest joint out right now, their workflow, and the way it all interacts is sick.

from my use, the beat thang has a different workflow, so I don't look at it the same way I do maschine. Heck, the tag-browser system is sick on maschine man!
 
Thanks saintjoe I respect ya word with tha gear and I understand what you are saying and I feel how if differs from maschine. I like the way you put it...Like if im somewhere with my girl (her moms house) and dont want to be there I can just plug in my earphones and thro down. Thats sic...I have maschine and I seen you use yours thats why I asked no intention of a maschine vs beat thang..Propz to slik for gettin us the info also...keep up the good work for us who really spend that money...peace
 
nah it's all good fam, I think it's natural to compare joints like this, I just think they are slightly different.

I can do stuff with maschine I can't do with the beat thang, and also I can unplug from the "lab" and be on the couch, up at the kitchen table, out at the park, or wherever and pull out the beat thang and make a track.

beat thang is more of a comparison for my mpc, or an mv, etc... but I still want to fully test it out.

I don't think anything is knocking Maschine off anytime soon, at the same time, I think the beat thang will open a lot of options for those of use who always wished we could operate our mpc on battery lol.
 
maschine does look tempting but i defo wanna see hoe the thang progresses b4 i make my call on which machine may be the successor to the mpc

i don't think either is the "successor" to the mpc actually, especially something like the 4k that has 4 midi outputs on it :) To be a successor it will have to be able to easily control and entire studio full of hardware, not just be a good sequence/sampler.

I think they are both progressions and build upon the mpc concept and other hardware sequencer/samplers.

I just don't think the two are similar enough to be compared, one is hardware and one isn't :)

The browser tag function let's you tag your whole sample library however you wish, so that you can browse by category from the Maschine controller.

example

I can browse for drums/kicks/sonicspecialists

and get to all my kicks from sonicspecialists

all by hand from the Maschine controller...nothing else can really do that lol.

but again, I think they both offer some awesome features, but are different enough to not replace each other.

cuz no matter what, Maschine needs a pc to run...whereas beat thang will work on it's own.
 
i neva use midi or control external modules nor do i use multiple outputs.

so from my perspective the next unit will allow me to work faster access more sounds at anyone one time while using hardware, and enable me to combine multi-samples and records, mp3's, wav and sounds from the pc/internet 2gether quickly to be more creative.

but was just thinking while reading ur maschine review again if the machine software could host vst's that would be killer like imagine being able to use say sampletank within the maschine and control it from the hardware in the same way. so u turn on the keyboard function and u can play the sample tank notes.

if the add that feature im defo copping that **** but i know the maschine is non destructive which i prefer cos u can load up the same sample in different beats and flip it different wihtout having to have multiple copies of the same sample.

but dose the current version allow u to chop n flip mp3's in the same way as wavs can be edited?
 
yeah I feel you, just saying that to be a true successor, it will have to be able to do what the current one's can. For cats like me that no longer have a room full of gear to sequence, maschine is that joint lol.

It can't do mp3s yet...I'm sure it will come tho.
 
I really wanted a Maschine but I heard so much flack about their lack of updates and missing some important features I lost interest. I don't have any production gear at all right now and want to get into it again but idk where to go.
 
i dunno what ya heard, guess it depends on what ya want. Maschine is dope, and I think the beat thang is gonna be dope as well lol.
