ALright, Im about to move up to one of these digital sequencers and buy either the AW4416 or the VS1824. Im trying to have the more effective machine out of the two in my studio, I already know the roland interface, but I would have to relearn the yamaha system, Also the aw4416 looks a little bulky, but its suppose to have good eq controls, the bottom line is I need more tracks and built in cd burner for back up at a price around 1000$
If any one out there could share any knowledge about these machines with me to help my decision it would be greatly appreciated.
Peace

the AW4416 is still considered the best MTR around and it's 6 yrs old.

I can't lie though, it's not for the inexperienced. that thing is a monster. if you decide on it, try to find a Y56K expansion card for it.

I have had my AW4416 for a couple of months now and i have barely scratced the surface of what it can do.

Roland is notorious for the compression of audio in the VS series. it really isn't that big of a deal but the 1824 isn't a bad choice either.

BTW...the AW4416 is not a sequencer, it is a Multi Track Recorder.

If at all possible, try to get the AW4416A, this is the model that I have. The internal CD-R is ATAPI instead of SCSI but it still supports external SCSI devices.

I hope that my ranting has helped you in some way.

PEACE!!!!!!

thats a though choice i know the AW44 is more advanced than the VS, but the VS is a great machine, I have a VS1824 and the smaller AW16G. If you looking for a VS I got one with 2 effects cards, all manuals and a 3rd party VS users guide which makes navagating the machine easier. PM me if you are intrested with a price.

The AW4416 is the way to go..... the only thing it doesn't have, that I would like is USB Data transfer... Backing up on the CD-R isn't all that, as it takes forever.

I've got the mLan Card so I can back up 8 tracks at a time to my computer. But it was hell to get to work in the first place, and only works with XP SP1.... so, don't get it. I've also got an ADAT card that works great for the same thing, and better than mLan if you want to use your computer as an effects rack, which I do......

But things like sound quality is subjective, and you'll never get a group of 50 people to agree on what sounds the best, much less the millions of folks you hope will listen to your work.

The motorized faders, and the ability to record 16 tracks at a time are the main things keeping me on the AW..... the new AW won't do 16 tracks at a time.. at 24 bits..... I don't think the new Korg will either. The only things those machines have over the AW, is a more powerful effects engine..... they can run more effects, with more flexiblitiy than the AW. Which is the problem I've solved by using the 8 ADAT channels going to my computer.

I've had my AW for 4 years now.... I've put in a bigger 60GB harddrive, because the original was starting to act all flakey, and I just didn't trust it anymore.

But other than that, no problems.

It works as advertised, and if I had to buy one today, money being no object, I'd more than likely do it again.

Im leaning towards the AW4416

I appreciate all the feedback youkow its giving me relativity on my choice, Im thinkin of goin with the AW, my only concern is about the cd burner if its reliable and affordable to get the correct model. Also Im on a budget of around $800 to 900 ya know, so I hope its a long lasting machine cuase Ill most likely get it used.
Peace

well, the AW4416........ and the VS1824 are out of production, and if you're talking under $1000, you have no choice but to go used. I've never seen an AW4416 without the CD-burner...... and if you're talking ebay, for $900 make sure the cd burner is there.
