Hi guys I'm new here!

Just wondering if you could give me some advice.

I own a djm 600, and have just bought a Tascam X-9. Oh boy was that a mistake!

(Trying to get rid of the Tascam btw! )

What I want is a xone 62 and pioneer efx500.

But I've heard there is no fx loop, or u can't monitor efx with this mixer.

Is there any way round this?

Maybe the xone 92 will solve this problem...

Cheers in advance!

Welcome to FutureProducers! If you want to use seperate efx w/ a mixer i would go for a rane empath. The xone62, i believe doesn't have effect send/returns so it would be very tricky to properly setup effects, you may be able to connect the mixer's output directly to the efx500's inputs and then connect the output of the fx box directly into your amp's input. Then again, im not sure if the efx-500 has a bypass switch to disable effects. hope i didn't confuse you.

The Xone 62 does not have an FX loop. The new Xone 92 will have an FX loop. It may actually have two FX loops. I'm waiting to find out more about the Xone 92 as that may be the mixer of choice for me.

Hey thanx guys!

Wow I hope the 92 does have an fx loop!

I also hope the price tag aint too hefty!

Guess we'll see when it's unveiled in less than 48 hours.

I can't wait!

i cant hardly wait either... im now wondering if that rane empath i bought 2 weeks ago will still be worth it for me...

The 62 has an AUX in/out system, that while different than an effects loop is actually quite nice, and can certainly be used to add effects. I am anxious to see the 92 also. It is hard to think about how there really was to improve...

the AUX system on the 62 is the ultimate effects loop imho. but sure, why not wait for the 92. - jeff h

Where did you hear that the 92 will have an effects loop?

All I heard is that each channel will allow two inputs to be played at the same time (like the xone 02), so 4 x 2 = 8 + 1 (aux/maybe effect) which is 9.

Also in a interview with Richine Hawtin he said A&H wheren't going to produce his CRTL mixer yet but had another one in the works (the 92). So it looks like it won't have MIDI control.

Of course this is probably just a load of crap, not long to wait, I plan to go to the launch and check it out.

I heard as well that the 92 was just going to be a 464 replacement....

But!... hopefully it'll knock down the prices of some of the other A&H DJ mixers.

Indeed the Xone:62 has no FX loop, but an aux system instead. And this provides a lot of control too. The way you normally use it is to route the aux out to the effector, and the effector returns in an empty channel (actually the first 2 channels are adequate for this). It's a way of working that is used a lot in production studio's.

After Christmas I'm thinking about upgrading my mixer... I'm currently using a DJM 500 which is great, but the effects bite, so I'm looking at either getting a 600, or going with A&H and an external effects box... The 62 looks hot, and from what people say is a killer mixer, and I'm definately excited about the 92... So excited in fact that the countdown page is my desktop...

Ok cheers,

But u cant send the effect to a specific channel can u (with a xone62 and efx500)..?

It only effects the master?

Plus u can't monitor effects unless u have a spare pair of fones connected to the efx500?

Yes you can. The Xone:62 has an auxiliary send. You connect the effector to that aux out.

Each channel has a aux send button on top (those knobs above the gain control), which can even be switched pre or post fader.
So with that aux send knob you decide which channel gets sent to the effector.
You then return the effector into a free channel of the Xone.

You can monitor both what you send to the effector (by listening to the aux monitor) and what comes from the effector (by cueing the channel you returned it too).

In my opinion the Xone aux system is as powerful, if not more, than a normal send/return loop. You can not only choose to send one or more channels to the effector, but also the whole master, because the Xone has a switch to send the output of the xfader to the aux also.
Controlling the return (wet signal) with a fader is also nicer than with a small rotary knob imo.

Thankyou Thy!

To be honest I'll have to read and re-read that post because it kinda confuses me!

But thanx for your advice.

Looks like I'll have to get a xone62 (well, after I've seen the 92)

Muchos Gracias Amigo!

But it's also no as simple as a send/return. You also loose the ability to use the crossfader simply.

Although it looks like the Xone 92 won't have MIDI control, I have had ggod luck using my Axis9 CD players MIDI out to control my set-up. I use the Axis9 as the master control, sending MTC to my laptops and EA-1. Knock on wood, no problems yet!!! I'm hoping the 92 will solve my needs. I need to be able to select which channel has the FX ala the 464. I not looking forward to spending the cash on a 464, but it is the only mixer which meets all my needs.

actually it's very simple - you just use the fader for the return chanel as your "wet/dry" fader, plus you get to select what you send out and at what level.

Getting a fully wet signal is not simple though, for this there are two options:
1) use the aux prefader and send the send level with the aux control, now the return channel is fully wet. OK simple but now try thinking about assigning this to the crossfader and you have to make sure you the original channel is 'off'.

2) use the aux postfader and bypass sending it to the master by assigning it to the crossfader and having it not output anything. OK again simple but now try swapping the effects onto a different channel, requires a number of reassignments of the crossfader.

I found it just too complicated for 'DJ' use. This and the fact the crossfader has a delay caused me to sell it.

It's all a matter of being used to such way of working. I've worked with two effectors connected to my Xone:62 several times already (KP2 on the aux, EFX500 on the master), and in the end I just stopped using the EFX altogether, cuz the KP on the aux let me do all that I want. There's just more versatility to it.

But you're right, you gotta keep your head to it, but if you are careful it's a very powerful weapon.
