I want to know from producers and engineers, if yall ever go thru this with artist or so called "artist". Do yall ever have problems with some artist that don't show up for studio appointments? What about ofthese guys come thru with half of the money and trying to work out a deal for the same amount of time for less money. Have anyone experience this? if so how do you handle this kind of situation?

haaa!!! yea man heres how it works if they are not there on time they lose time simple as that!! Tell them that you got other people askin for studio time and they need to think about other peoples sessions too. Bro I use to have peeps show up 2 hours later or just show up out of no where without a call smh I dont tolerate that. They got to understand its YOUR time not theirs they are NOT special. A lot of studios ask for a percentage or deposit JUST to book the time and its non refundable if they dont show up then you keep the money and they can reschedule without a problem. They will be more serious if they see you are laying down the rules that way trust and believe they dont give a shit they think they stars already smh bro Ive gotten into confrontation with some these dudes for that **** that I dont tolerate that shit!

Thanks my man for the advice. Glad to see someone that actually experience this and know how to handle the situation. I need to step up the rules and let em know whos boss

if they come out short, tell'em we'll record but I won't mix it down or send it to you until I receive all the money

I think for anyone working in the music industry people being short on money and not keeping appointments is pretty common lol. I've literally had artists I've had agreements with to work on and actually HELP them, still not put the effort in to show up on time or show up at all. Dudes these days expect you to work harder for them than they do themselves lol.

It's all been said above but to summarise it;:

1) 10% booking deposit: No deposit, no booking!
2) The session starts at the agreed time and ends at the agreed time. If you arrive late you only get to use the studio for the remaining time of the session and still pay the agreed fee.
3) No show, booking deposit is forfeit
4) No negotiations will be allowed once you have booked: this is a contract and it will be enforced.

Get some advice from an attorney on exactly how to word these, and make up several signs that are prominently displayed around the studio: reception, green room, control room, studio floor, vocal booth, etc.

Let them know that you mean business and that this is a business and therefore is about making a profit as well as making music.

What Bandcoach said. Get a deposit upfront. That is one way to protect your end. If you do record and then they say "we don't have the money" then don't give them the song until you're paid. That's like saying "we will let you take this car you rented, even though you didn't pay us yet."

They aren't artists. They are cheap rappers that just take up space.

Thats what im talking about will have to use thses rules

Also keep in mind of who you're working with. I know an engineer who was working with a gangsta rapper and the guy held him at gunpoint after everything was done and robbed him of his hard drive without paying a cent.

LoL, very true. Stuff like this can happen.

Don't book crowds you can't handle guys. This can happen involving any type of music but you should have a strict no guns policy, and enforce it.
