been looking everywhere, i think they have one that is called "the talk box" but im not sure if it is the same one that he use to use...
if anyone can let me know were u can purchase one...

on the side i really hear that they are easy to break as well..

No idea what troutman used, but the one ethios4 posted is THE talkbox...as a matter of fact, that's the only brand I've ever heard people referring to, the Heil that is.

What your looking for is called a vocoder.

no it's not.

a vocoder modulates one sound with another. a talkbox sends the audio through a tube into your mouth so you can use your mouth to modulate an instrument's sound (troutman used guitars and synths) as if it were coming from your vocal chords.

Hey man, I found one on Ebay. I have been looking for one also...but I can't afford it right now. Good Luck

Talk Box

its not only about using the talk box..

its also about using the right modulator i.e. synth sound..

if u want to sound like roger.. if u use a sawtooth as the carrier u get brilliant results..

if u want to play other ppls vocals thru a talk box but only have a recording.. ur best bet is to find a digitech talker

true.. its a vocoder !.. but it has quite a convincing talk box emulation mode..

although beware of it running a DC current thru ur setup.. (there is a fix involving 100K ohm resistors in parallel with the output line to ground that fixes this.. check online..)

Whoever said a VOCORDER is an IDIOT and obviously not a musician. A VOCORDER is what TEDDY RILEY LIKES TO USE because it is easier to utilize and you actually sing through a mic and your voice is manipulated by the envelope generators of a synthesizer or vocorder processor.

The Heil Dunlop Talk Box is an over priced super heavy speaker box magnet that utilizes the power from an amplifier to work along with a guitar or synthesizer. True, if you had the correct patch... you could get close to the Roger Troutman sound. I suggest playing around with old FAT ANALOG sounds from a vintage Korg or Roland synth or better yet... GET A YAMAHA DX100 (or DX21) and pull up the BIG BRASS sound and manipulate the waveform to sawtooth with no delay..... run this through a ROCKTRON BANSHEE talk box (pre-amplified version of the Heil Dunlop but much easier to handle with POWER) and YOU HAVE THE ROGER SOUND!!!!

For more tricks or wanting to collab on writing traxx hit me up.

first of all. you need to calm your ass down for your first post which made it very evident that you know more about this subject than most in the room but dayum....dont call nobody an idiot cause they made a common mistake on a very cool subject. thats very corny trying to come up in here and flex your noodle and then say "for more trick or wanting to collab on writing traxx hit me up" just makes you look like an a$$hole. not a good look for you. i'm sure you have much better character and tact than this post would lead me to believe. for the future...be cool about your knowledge....and BTW

welcome to fp.com. :hello: it's good to have you here. enjoy.

I'd like to know how the talk box is hooked up now. Can I hook up my motif rack to it?

is there a such thing as a voice changer?? harmonizer plug in vs rack??? any info

i know of two options...
1) I used to have a Roland vs880-ex 8-track HD recorder with FX built in. There were a couple of voice-changer FX on there that operated by shifting pitch while maintaining formant structure. It sounded pretty weird, more useful for special FX than true voice changing.
2) The Kyma/Capybara software/hardware system is an excellent sound morphing system. It can change any sound into another. http://www.symbolicsound.com/cgi-bin/bin/view/Company/WebHome

ok
my question:
Can the Dunlop Heil Talk Box work with the SE-1x?? or the xv-5050? or my mpc4000?

I have one of the actual aparatus' that was used on road gigs by the late Roger Troutman given to me by his brother Terry "Zapp" Troutman.

This thing is really home made and can really be made with simple parts from either Radio Shack (this original unit LITERALLY HAS A RADIO SHACK AMP INSIDE THE BOX), or you can get a cheap ALL IN THE BOX UNIT by ROCKTRON called the BANSHEE. (I have both)

If you don't have an amplifier DON'T **** WITH THE HEIL DUNLOP TALK BOX!!!!! It will only PISS YOU OFF!!!!!

The original unit used by Roger included a YAMAHA DX-100 (you can use the DX-21....same board just regulation 61 key sythn version), the patch used was "HARD BRASS" (you can program the patch to get it perfect as you will find out that Roger used a lot of tweaking in the studio and overdubbing to get his sound TIGHT!!!)
There was also a Radio shack 50 watt amp wires into a mid sized tweeter speaker that was dampened by housing it in a glass bowl with tubing running from a center whole all wrapped in newspaper and DUCT TAPED TO HELL!!!! (I KID YOU NOT!!!!!!!) I have photos to prove this

Then all you do is set your amp and volume from the dx-100 and you are ready to go. You can actually have this thing loud enough that you don't even need a microphone. It will take a little programing and tweaking to get rid of the FEEDBACK HISSING but all in all... THIS IS THE ORIGINAL REAL MCKOY!!!

If you get the Rocktron Banshee.... ALL YOU NEED IS THE DX-100 "HARD BRASS" and you will sound JUST LIKE ROGER !!!!!!

Good Luck...

P.S. J-TRAXX..... EAT A DIK

you said "vocorder" several times, and I'm not even certain what that is, so I'll assume you were refering to a vocoder.

i don't know about the talkboxes they have for sale or the ones you can make (i do wanna buy the heil one though). i do know that with reason 3.0 and any recording software you can make this same effect. you record whatever you want in ur recording program and then sample it into the NN19, connect the NN19 to the BV512 vocoder and makes sure the nn19 is not connected to anything else, make sure the carrier for the vocoder is a malstrom and use one of the bass patches in malstrom (i use killer bass) and record the nn19 sample by itself. after you record that, jus record the malstrom over it and you will get the talkbox effect.

Hey sup people!

Yo DAREDEVIL69 can you send me some photos of that talkbox the Troutmans made... I like to see what it looks like? Send them to zapp_music@netzero.com

Thank bro

Peace
