What are today's steps in getting your name out locally and internationally? Hip-Hop

Me and another artist agreed to work with each other to make music. We've brought up ideas like comin out with a mixtape , putting up youtube videos of certain tracks possibly being in studio recorded stuff. Doing shows at local bars , clubs or wherever we can get basically. Doing it the old fashioned style push our stuff and get people to push out stuff locally. Either just flat out selling the mixtapes out the trunk type of deal or saying check out this video and this is the mixtape.

On the music side of things were discussing issues like should the music be fully original. Should we mix and have original beats with some industry beats to get a better variety of songs. Should we do it all industry beats because it's a better way to start? Original stuff you can sell too, I forgot to mention that.

What are some answers that any of you know that relate to what I have said.

btw I know money is power as well , like if I had mills I would just pay to get my **** out but I'm talking about doing it from the ground up type of deal
 
not that im a pro or nothin jus givin my 2 cents, "out da trunk" is a good start but now niggaz dont wanna pay 4 jay z's album let alone some nigga'z down the street im not sayin abandon it but really think on how much your gonna charge IF at all and how you market yourself everybody has a cd burner and can get purple cheap cases from walmart so if thats your route they should be free if you wanna set yourself apart and spend a little more money on the case art ect(pro packaging) you might get away with chargin enough 2 barely break even. also imo you should probably aim 4 more of a demo/raw cd then a mixtape with industry instrumentals cuz it makes you seem more dedicated and professional and ppl like 2 hear somethin new not your version of somethin old. also dont know your location or situation but dont be afraid to travel outside the city when you can and do your homework on any clubs venues or anything music related nearby and not so nearby. also any exposure is good exposure and your not 2 good 4 anything and nothing is a waste of time i had a roomate talented as all fu k nuts and on 2 separate times he was suposed 2 battle but backed out cause he was more "lyrical" and every1 else was "gucci" i also got him the number 2 sum woman(very cute by the way) who works at our local radio station(charlotte)and he never even called cause it was a "waste" of time and she wasnt gonna do anything for him a smart thing he did though was find a poetry spot and took 1 of his songs and spoke it in poetry form(good idea) also i dont know how its at where you are but the ppl who throw a lol of parties and events and such at a lot of our clubs are in my age bracket(21ish) and shouldnt b 2 hard 2 network with. some1 i know...know of rather got in good with them and they played his song in the club during a lingere night,then at other events,then other clubs then eventually ended up on the local radio station barely in rotation but...IN ROTATION. thats where it enden 4 him cause he was bubble gum(imo) but it could go further 4 u anyway i think i used up my 2 cents and then some
 
appreciate your feedback , yea i just talked some cat tonight that said he can play my **** matter of fact. u never know but he might be able to play any of my **** even if it's not really club type of ****

im interested in what you guys think are the steps though

should i get my **** played somewhere immediately?

should i just continue to get exposure?

should i look to get a show to put ourselves out there immediately?

should i just chill and make music and let people just skim through it like they are now?

should i come out with a mixtape and distrubute it locally?

these are the type of ****s then come to mind u guys ,

please reply and state what you think are the best steps to take and why!? thx

Lol thanks T-MIC. That didn't have enough details though. He kind of just dumbed it down and put it in steps but it did make sense.
