Has anyone got any experience with a Vestax PMC-170a? What features does it have? Do the crossfaders last for a long time? How smoothly does the fader move, loosely or stiff?

Any advice would help.

Yup... I have the Vestax PMC-170a... Well, I recently retired it and pretty much let my buddy have fun with it.

The 170a is okay. I bought it because I wanted a mixer that can handle my three-turntable mixing and has some decent sound qualities and reliability. For what I bought it for, it's great. But I also scratch a lot... which became a BIG problem. Two months after I got it, the crossfader shorted out my right side (so, you can always hear both turntables ALL THE TIME on the right channel). At the same time, it started to bleed like crazy!! The fader is stiff and is not intended for serious scratching. I didn't mind the stiffness because when I moved to my new mixer (Rane TTM-54), which has a much smoother fader, I can cut through it like butter!! But the fader and the face plate wear out really easily... The sound quality of this mixer is really good for the price...

Thanks

I am a progressive/tech house DJ. I do not scratch at all. The crossfader will only be used for beatmixing. As for the face panel, what do you mean that it wears out easily? What other alternatives would you recommend around about this price for the style of music that I play?

Thanks alot.

Oh... what I meant was that the chrome finish of the mixer around the fader rubbed off because of constant contact with my fingers while I practice my scratches...

If you want to just do three-turntable mixing without much scratching, this mixer is great. It's a lot more solid that the three-channel Stanton and the non-SM Numark (blue mixer). I was totally happy with it when I was doing my three-turntable routine. Regular mixing on this mixer is great also - it sounds quite clean and the knobs and faders feel solid.

Enjoy!!

PMC-170A

The PMC-170A is not a scratch mixer, it's a techno/trance mixer...

If you're spinning techno, trance, hardcore, etc. the PMC-170A is a really good mixer, featuring:

- 3 bands EQ
- Kill switches
- 2 channels with crossfader
- 1 independant channel
- 2 lines + 1 phono on each channel (that means 6 lines and 3 phonos)
- Effects send/return
- Two Outputs (Master line out, Rec Out)
- 4 microphones inputs (3 aux, 1 main)

However, lacking from a BOOTH output, it's not a good mixer for a club or a rave... It's really a HOME mixer.

I have it, I like it.

It's too shiny though so you spend a lot of time wiping finger prints off of it.

I have this mixer, it's awesome.. but be warned, don't get a coffin that holds a 10" mixer cause this mixer is just a little bit bigger.. so it doesn't fit... that's my only problem with it. haha!
