Hello all, I hope I have posted in the right place. Kind of new to FP I have been checking out the site for a while without registering. Just bought the Numark CDX basically to sample from cd and the supposed ability to be able to use midi in conjunction with a drum machine. I think the problem is with the Numark but the manual gives a two line blurb about MIDI not how to set it up on the Numark. Can anyone help? How can I slave the Numark CDX to either a Fantom or the 1000. I know how to set up MIDI on both but clueless with the Numark.

arg... you know what i have both the CDX and the MPC1000 but I have never looked into getting them in sync.

to do simple sampling, you don't need MIDI, just audio cables

I am pretty sure MIDI is just there to START/STOP the CDX from an external sequencer (the MPC is a sequencer)

I never felt the need to get these 2 to start at the same time, as the CDX is like an instrument to me (scratching).

what do you want to do exactly?

Wow Mano,

From looking at the site you are well respected and very talented. I appreciate your response and I wanted to start and stop the CDX. My thinking was if I got an idea from a CD I could start that idea by looping that idea and drop drums over it to see if it works. Then sample into the fantom, mpc or computer if I want I have several options, chop if needed and flip the sample but not so much to loose the feeling of the sample. Now thinking if I could only start and stop the CDX from the MPC and then not control the tempo of the sample it would be off unless I set the temp of the MPC to the beat match of the CDX. Do you think I could come close to some form of sync between the two? Oh and I can't even get the mpc to start and stop the CDX?

I don't know if you can make the CDX match the tempo of the MPC - that is an interesting question, and technically I wouldn't see why not :)

mmhh...

I would suggest to call Numark support directly and ask them. Post here to report what they said.

... from this review I found on the internet, it seems that it *should* work as you described:

The CDX has a MIDI in and out port that enables you to set it as either the Master or Slave. This means that you can connect the CDX to either another CDX or to a digital drum machine, sampler or sequencer with a MIDI I/O. The main use for the MIDI controller is to set the pitch automatically. This basically means the tracks will be sync’d in time and all you need to do is worry about your performance aspect. This system was available in the older model of the Axis 9 but has been removed since its latest upgrade.
