i keep hearin bout this mic called the "dapro" from se electronics that never came out. supposed to be a pretty good clone of nueman's u87. anyone out there ever use one, if not what is your choice if you were gonna pick a clone of the u87. thanks

"U87 Clone" is a buzz-phrase to make you think a cheapie mic is the same as a U87. They're not.

The DAPRO mic, I'd bet $$ on, is exactly the same as the old CAD 400's. Down to the internal HPF and phantom indicator.

It's probably a decent mic. It's NOT a U87. The only decent U87 clone I know of is the U87ai.

If the main use is for vocals (it seems as if that's the usual here), I'd probably not be looking for a U87 (or similar) in the first place. It's not that wonderful of a vocal mic for aggressive vocals.

"Not that wonderful" might be an understatement...

I've used the sE 2200a against a U87, has a lot of the same character, none of the depth, or the air. A solid mic though, and in my opinion, with a good pre sounds as good as a U87 on vox, on other things...I'm not so sure about, drum o/h its solid for.
