Hello guys

I've been thinking alot about making trance tunes. And I've been wondering about the layers of trance tracks.

Of course trance tune has a drumkit with kicks usualy around 128-140 BPM.

But what made me wonder is, does every track has a PAD going on for most of the track?

If the track is based mostly on a melody with bassline, is it possible to throw in also some PAD?

For example: Rank 1 Jochen Miller - the great escape. (can't yet show links due to low post count, but I'm pretty sure you know this track)

At the beginning I hear a drumkit with a pad, then the pad disapears and shows up again. Then around 1:27 the pad disapears and shows up a melody with a bassline (yes?).

Then I hear some arpeggiated melody and pad in the breakdown with a powerful hit comming later with some sawish signal with pad.

Am I right about that? Could you help me dismantling this track?
By dismantling I mean, telling me how this track is built in particular parts.

Thanks in advance for your help :)

listen to a lot of trance and youll get the idea and structure of trance lol go with your heart :) feel it.

Don't go with the usual, trance has always been about being creative, just go with it, follow your heart.

In trance Pad's are important, without it song may sound a bit empty so pads are there to keep all parts of song together as do the white noise it fills all the frequencies.
A friendly tip experiment and explore, look at Jezpers(Airbase) tutorials its very helpful you will understand how pro producers do their work. :D

What Digitalsound said is spot on.

Good to see some people excited about trance music. I love it! keep the vibe alive and bust out some sick tunes!

Atmosphere is good VST for Pad's also hypersonic, but i recommend to you to buy vanguard or z3ta+ and make pads by your self improvise and combine with other VSTs ;)

Pads are pretty essential in a track. Just make an 8 bar melody with a pad, bassline, few leads, and then get rid of the pad. Typically it'll sound bad but, if you had a lot of underlying things going (think progressive) on it's "possible" it could sound good. However I wouldn't recommend not using any pad at all cause you might forget to do a progression and chord progressions are absolutely needed. Hope that helps!

theres a few ways u can use em, either as a backing sound in a tune, have it as the main sound along with a lead thats shaped into a pad [airwave for example] our you just have it sidechained with the bass and have say an arpeggiated melody over that. depends really whether you want the modern or the old trance, just experiment until you get something you like.

im realitively new to music making and production and mixing

im realitively new to music making and production and mixing but i wanted to say i found this site and thread thru google and well its been very helpful and im glad to see so many people interested and knowledgeable about trance ... im horrid with terminology and watnot but i have a awesome taste and ear for music . Over the last couple months i have found my calling in music and have started my progression and attempt at creating dif style of trance i guess.. Idk if it will let me link you or not , but i would really appreciate if you guys would check out my sound cloud mix and give me so real feedback on wher i cna improve or where im doing good at .. Im biased and well every artist sees flaws where they may or may not be in their own work but i relaly would like to hear an outside educated critique of my stuff.. So if you are so inclined please search me on sound cloud . My soundcloud name is mindabduction and my mix is called soul searcher.
