I really like this mixer, I was playing with it at guitar center, and just testing it out. I have a DJM-500 and it felt better quality than my pioneer. And when I was looking at the price tag, expecting a $800-$900 I saw that it was $499!! This is a incredible deal on a incredible mixer, effects are overrated, all I need is a solid mixer with a good EQ, and good monitor (which the DJM-500 does not meet) Please post what you think about my comparison

Give us some time to reply mate!

I was considering getting one of those instead of the Ecler Smac 40 (I later went with the Ecler). I like the onboard sampler but didnt like the way the cards weren't compatible with anything else. They are very well priced most of the Tascam stuff is incredibly good quality for its price. (Tascam are kind of the 'good guys' of the equipment industry in my eyes.)

I to have compared this to a Pioneer except I compared it to the DJM 600, and to be honest I preferd the Tascam, I like the eq's a lot more, and I (in my style) can make a lot more use of an onboard sampler than onboard effects.

I wouldn't expect to many answers on this forum about Tascam stuff (except the XS-8), I asked a question a while back and didnt get many answers!

In conclusion they are great mixers and if your DJM 500 isnt to old you could probably sell it then buy a Tascam without losing any/much money!

Ciao

I agree with you about how important a good EQ is, and I really liked the tascam's EQ's a bit more than the 500's. I do use the effects on my pioneer, but sometimes having them is a bad thing. I sometimes find myself playing with them too much of using them in the wrong places, so maybe not having effects would be good for me.

The X-17 has an effect send/return anyway so you could just hook up an external effect unit if you need to in the future.

Ciao
