im lookin at studio monito cable if i do xlr to 1/4 will it still be balanced?

as long as you use a balanced 1/4 cable (TRS) it will have three seperate metal piece like this:

The ends shouldn't matter, if you used a balanced cable it will be balanced. If you put it into an unbalanced cable or adapter you may lose gain.

ok thanks guys i just bought some monster studio link 500 1/4 trs to 1/4 trs are those good cables?

^^ is that a joke? The cable ends do matter, ones with three connectors are balanced, ones with two are unbalanced, additionally, using unbalanced cables results in your cables being more succeptable to noise, not any loss in gain.

Monster make good cables but they are often too expensive for what they are, the marketing hype can also be a bit over the top.

What are you connecting to what?

Hey Yayo, the first response answered it well. FYI balanced is better for rejecting noise so its better if you have then when you have other cables near your monitors.

If he bought a balanced cable then he shouldn't have to worry about the end, it would be the right one. I've used unbalanced cables on a balanced circuit before and noticed a significant loss of gain.

you should be able to easily tell the cable based on the end, and I can assure you that using unbalanced cables will not result in a loss of gain, balanced cables have two conductors and a ground. With the introduction of the ground, a balanced device is able to detect and reject noise in the line.
