Hey guys, I've hovered around this site for some time now but this is my first post.

I am looking for the best carts to replace my absolute crap stanton 500 al 2's that I got stock with my tables and cant hold a sample for jack. I have decided to go with either the Stanton 520 sk dj craze sigs or the shure m447's. I am sure that everyone is going to tell me that if I have the money to get the shures, but I would really like to know WHAT exactly makes them better and why a kick ass dj like craze wouldnt use them over his own.

I will be using them mostly for skratching but I want to get needles that will last me a while and be up to juggling if I decide to experiment with it as well as the more difficult and needle demanding skratches.

Thanx in advance for your guys responses!

i use the craze cartridges over shure because
you can actually see the needle and they are less bulky

i use the shures m447 and personnally imho i think that they stick on the grooves pretty nice and if your gonna do hardcore scratchs it will stick on the grooves (if you set them up right). they are also kickass son juggling well that is my opinion

the most likely reason that he uses the stanton over the shure is because his name is on the stanton...when you get a signature anything...(whatever instrument) the company that makes your singature usually doesnt like for you to use other brands during performances and things like that.

I've been using Craze needles for about a year, but they're almost dead. They go pretty fast and start to skip and sound horrible when they're worn. Everyone who uses 4-7's say they've had theirs for over 3 years.

stantons dont stick as well as shures and eat up your vinyl. 447s stick well but sound like ass

Thanx for the responses guys!

I think I'm going to go with the 447's as I wanted something that is going to stick well and last me a good while. Although, Hairy I'd like to hear you elaborate the sound quality issue you speak of.

I was also wondering if anyone could recommend a site to buy the 447's from or if I should just hit up ebay and look around. I'd also like to get a pair of butter rugs with the 447's and have heard about sites that give you a good price if you buy a package of 2 carts from them. Any suggestions?

some times the sound quality can sound a bit harsh (loud highs, alot of bass)but its well worth it for the tracking. I would try ebay, seen some 447s going for 50 US each. also to let you know, craze only used the stantons because he was gettin paid by them, and he wouldn't if he were using other needles. don't take names into consideration when buying products because most of the time they're just marketing schemes.

about it sounding like ass he probably mean that the m447 are really loud like the bass part mainly used for hip hop and if you dont like the bass loud you should get the m44g which basically is the same cartridge except dif stylii read the review of the shure m447 vs m44g

they are far too bassy - i find myself having to kill my bass eq to below zero to stop from overdriving my sound system but they stick well

I like the M-44. I think it finds the right balance between record wear, skip resistance, and fidelity. Low hard hitting bass is dope. I used to have the stanton al 500 2's back in the day and they sucked ass. they burned records so fast! Never again will i buy a stanton 500 al 2, even if its for a belt drive listening table. F that.

Once you get your M447s set up dude, it is HARD to make them skip even if you TRY. The output is superhigh too. Only trumped by the new Ortofon Qberts in that department.

Go Big, or Go Home! Both needles are garb. Used em all pretty much. Ortophon is the only way to go. Dont listen to wut ne one else trys to tell ya. Try the Ortophon Scratch Or The Signature Q bert Needle. Both designed for descruction on the decks. Have both. Sound amazing and last long. Damage to records is considerable, but expected. How much does a scatch record cost? 15 bux LoL.

ironic considering you repeatadely spelled the company's trade name wrong.

haha no im not tryin to argue or start beef.. poking fun is all

I'm stationed in Japan. The 44-7's cost about $49 here. I can send via USPS, which would take about a week. The military flies our mail almost everyday to a USPS point in San Fran, and then it's shipped to it's destination. Military stationed overseas still have U.S. Zip Code. Shipping is only charged from SF. Let me know. I can set up a buy it now on e-bay to make the transaction secure. I don't mind trying to help out fellow D.J.'s.
