Please no sarcasm, I just wanna know some of the qualities a rapper must have to keep ur attention and make you listen to them?

You have to have quality lryics, you have to put effort and creativity in your lyrics, You have to have a nice flow, You cant bluff on every other track, Dont use a stupid metaphor every other sentence, and be yourself.

Good rappers have fan base , bad rappers dont simple as that

good lyrics are a plus but not a need.
a good personality is a must
a great voice
a good story or subject matter

Lyrics, Lyrics, Lyrics...oh did I mention lyrics!
Gotta be able to ride a track (flow)
Voice must stand out (None of that "Hey he sounds like...")
Crowd control/ stage presence

...then again you did say Rapper not Emcee. :banghead:

A good rapper needs charisma. Something that makes him or her memorable. A good rapper needs to be able to make the listener feel whatever emotion they are trying to portray. I think the concept of lyricism sometimes is misconstrued as a combination of vocabulary and wordplay. there are good rappers who dont have verses full of multis and they are able to get a point across without using a thesaurus. Simplicity does not imply lack of talent. Take Vast Aire for example, his bars lack a complex rhyme scheme but i still view him as a talented rapper and lyricist. same goes for Jeezy.

It's the knowledge they drop, delivery, clever punch lines, personality, voice, experiences, relativity and what every one else said above too. It's about being who they are. All the rest should fall in place with time.

they pretty much said it all. i try an rap/emcee i think i do allright lol

things that make a good rapper is different for different people. but if u wanna get rich jus get you a catchy hook and a nice beat. iPromise

If you think about it though it's really not that easy. I guarantee if everybody in this thread including me made a catchy ass club record we still wouldn't get on because, it's not what you do, but who you know. All these people with these stupid ass little catchy songs (Cali Swag District, New Boyz, Roscoe Dash, Flocka even though I **** wit him, etc.) know ppl and knows how to get in contact with them. You can't just pop up out of nowhere and land on the radio. It's not enough with what you do.

Well I talk to my students about this all the time, In my humble opinion, I think it has to do with lyrical flow, rhythm to the beat, and metaphor.

Listen to Kool G Rap, Rakim, Kool Moe Dee, Melle Mel, Ludacris, Twista, Tech-N9ne or LL Cool J and you won't have to ask the question anymore.

I think an important factor to look at is rappers that use their voice like instruments or drums. A good rapper has a certain rhythm or melody to his delivery that maintains a significant difference between the instrumental and the song.

I think alot of times bad rappers are unnoticeable on good beats because you kinda fade em out. Alot of times you won't remember much about the song except the beat and the hook. But I think a good rapper will keep you focused on what he's saying if he delivers it in a fashion that rides to the beat rhythmically or has a certain cadence and melody to it that makes him stand out or highlight a not so great beat into a very good song.

I think good examples of rappers that do that are people like Pac, Luda, etc

Skillsrus is right, a good mc who does this very well is "Biggie" "G-Dep", "King T", "Rakim" "Pac", they treat there voices as instruments.

a good rapper

has to be able to put himself totally in the song like an actor puts himself in the scene of a movie.

Has to be lyrical and also easy for a listener to follow and get right into.

I dont really have to explain what bad is.
It could sound bad, it sounds like its being read off a page, it doesnt relate to me, there are tool many reasons it could suck

Apart from good lyrics and flow; confidence is extremely important...I know good rappers who dont have enough confidence or self-swag if you will, but have the skill...You have to believe in your self and make it look like you are somebody. And when you rap, make people wanna listen, speak clearly and precisely and dont mumble... And PRONOUNCIATE...Also good rythm ..Being rhythmic helps you to come up with flows and hit the beats you want..
