I believe as a music producer that you shouldnt tell anyone what you use to produce or make beats. You would be very fooled if you heard my production. Here's a little sample beat here..what program you producers out there think this was done in?

What difference does it make? The only thing that matters is if something is hot or not. Nobody has something that no one else has. Not Timbo, Kanye, Dre, Mark Ronson, Trent Reznor...NOBODY. Sure, there are beta products the big boys get first dibs on, and high ticket items, but if you look at anyone's setup, they have the same stuff everybody else has. It's all about what you do with the gear. Tell the world what you use. Who really cares?
Peace

I have no idea what you used-but I'll guess Fruity Loops.

I don't think it matters whether people know what you use, unless your signature sound is the result of some certain VST or program, in which case you probably need to work on developing your own style. I can understand not sharing your samples-but not sharing what you use? Seems kind of pointless, just my opinion

I have no problem telling people what I use to produce my beats. The way I feel about is that it's the idea that counts, so even if people are using the same equipment as me, they won't be coming up with the same music. I do use presets, but I also make my own sounds, so I'm not worried about other people sounding like me. I also like to have complete control over my music, so I almost never use any preprogammed sequences/arpeggios, and even replay any loop from a sample CD that I use (although I've only used a loop from a sample CD in one beat to date).

it dont matter .....
unless you dont wanna tell anybody if thats the case ......dont

Would you care to justify that...?

SP

you could've used anything since it's just a loop with some bongos too loud and dry. It doesn't matter. It's not like you have a best kept secret.

damn i just played the track maybe you shouldnt tell us what you use lol

The only people who care to ask what you use are other producers, and whatever you say they'll just compare your setup to what they use. If you don't use what they use, you get knocked down a few points in their book so you really can't win in that situation.

damn!! *No friuty loops* Thats the point i could have use anything but if you really knew what i used it would blow your mind. Yea its a loop and bongo's but there is more to the track than what you think. Thats the thing im trying to point out and i have been having this idea for a long time and i think its a well kept safe secret with me. I have had artists use my tracks with no idea how i produced it..and me knowing what i did is just crazy.

I agree everybody is using the same thing but if i got a beat out there a artists is rocking..and i know how the beat came about..and people were actually feeling the beat..it would prove my theory that "anything" can be done with producing. Its not really neccessary to spend big bucks and have most of the top-notch equipment to achieve this. I have the evidence through im's from artists on myspace and music downloads. Anything is possible in this music game.

I don't care if you know I use Reason for some tracks but what you don't have is my brainwaves showing you how I personally put a track together.

It's the person that counts.

ALOT of people went out and bought SP-1200's when Madlib made a statement that he used it.

But there's only one Madlib.

Same for Pete Rock. Everybody talkin' about *purists* and *'real' Hip-Hop*......strange that there are more Nitti's and Storch's than Premier's and Pete Rock's

you might find a rare plugin or sample cd that has a distinct sound that can become a signature sound, or the part of your track(s) that make it extra hot. If you let that cat out the bag, your sound could get overused and played out. Top dogs know what I'm talking about.

so what are you gunna do when an artist comes over to your studio to work on tracks? cover up all your equipment? no gear...cover up your comp/laptop?

point is whatever you use is available to the public. unless your setup is custom made somehow.

now i do like when somebody tells me about something that works like it should and wont lock-up or breakdown on me ......
there are things i want because i heard somebody else rockin them ...
like a se-1 some of those old moog boards old rolands, korgs etc.................

without even listening to or reading the thread, fruity loops. possibly reason.

you need to get rid of whatever you used to make that my dude.

Samplitude.. Sounds like a Samplitude Track. Even so. I think what matters is your Imagination. I dont use Frooty Loops but I have heard some guys make Magic with it. It all depends on what you can do with what you have!!

i think he uses some really expensive equipment, and he thought that buying that really expensive equipment would "make him a hot beat." but he was surprised to find out he actually came out with some sonic chaos, with a wierd ass sound that comes in the middle.

Can ya,ll imagine lyrics or a rap over that beat? Actually i have the lyrics of a female artist over that beat. Hard to imagine huh? Well one of you was correct on what i use to make that beat. I also didnt say it was my main thing to make beats..but a alternative to me. Laughing at all the answers except acid...which brings that this tool is very underrated when it comes to producing. No acid is not expensive compared to ish like cubase and reason.

You jus gotta know what you doing and how you trick out the program. i,ve fooled everybody in this mothufugga except dude who said acid... Now you guys see that it really doesnt matter what you use to make music its the end result that matters. Yes i have actual lyrics over that beat and more than 200 downloads of that beat. Thats why i think its pointless to argue over whats the best to use like software vs hardware and ish like that if u cant guess what the beat is made in then its a pointless debate. If somebody think the track is hot..then i have done my job.
