Hi guys,I have recently started rapping/writing raps. Not professionally of course. I have recently discovered the whole concept about rhyme scheme patterns (e.g. ABAB, AAAA) and etc. The rap's i have been writing out have recently been AABB. i would like to make them a bit more complex and a lot more advanced. Any tips on how i could do this? And does anyone know any different type of rhyme schemes i could use? And also could anyone explain them a bit more to me? I only know a little bit about the topic and i would like to further my knowledge on it so that my raps could become a lot better. I understand that when using multies in raps, the scheme goes something like ABAB..Thanks

Don't get so caught up in the AB thing. I used to try and think out all my raps like that but it just became to much, slowed me down and made it harder to write. Focus more on studying the greats and freestyling. It is all in the flow man, once you get a flow going its just a matter of inserting the words. Check this out:

Elzhi is one of the best. Also study DOOM, Earl Sweatshirt etc.. Anyone with intense and complex flows and patterns. Its all practice.

what do you guys think of this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYa36pKCHkQPersonally, i would like to incorporate a lot of multi syllables while i'm rapping as well as in-rhymes. This guy mentions that to do this, usually a ABAB scheme is required? Are there any other type of rhyme schemes? From what i have gathered is that AAAA is a pretty basic scheme and personally, i would like to go for the most common used ones or complex ones. Any ideas? Thanks

Thanks for the reply. You mentioned the word "study", how do i go about doing that? like should i read over a verse from one of those artists and try and imitate their rhyme scheme but with my own words? Should i work on my flow first instead of rhyme schemes etc?

Just listen to em, reading the lyrics can help too. Just feel how they have flows, see how the switch rhyme words, just study em. In my personal experience I have found that a lot of it is trying and studying making little progress then you have an AHA moment and jump ahead in skill a lot more.

hey, i think i get where your coming from. For example i was just reading an article on MF DOOM's rhyme scheme and wow, his rhyme scheme is Mad! (ABAC/BAABC) It literally got me so inspired lol!. It made me think, damn i can be as creative as i like, really. Right now, i am just trying to find my own personal rhyme scheme. I really don't want to use the common/basic rhyme scheme (aaaa/abab). Anyone know any complex ones? What do a lot of people mean by when they say "study rappers styles"? Does the mean in the sense, that i should try and read over as many different rappers lyrics and try to learn to write in their style/rhyme scheme and then base my own following aspects of my favorite rappers? I am more of an analytical person.

anyone got any examples of complex rhyme scheme patterns? I would rather start trying to write using complex than basic ones. I know i am still a beginner but i am sure, via practice i could possibly be good at using them.

Yeah man i been rapping for years and i dont know shit about rhyme schemes.. Just rap and make it sound good... I after hearing the beat i figure out what kind melody i want to rap in and then i fill in the words

And also, i have always wondered does the end of every line have to rhyme with the next? Or can it be varied via the rhyme pattern used? Also, when using multisyllabale's in lines, does the line have to follow a AB/AB pattern because of the multisyllaible or can the pattern be more than just AB/AB when using multisyllables? I hope, i don't come across as confusing lol.

Haha, yeah i guess that's what i should be doing. Just put a instrumental and go with the flow and let whatever comes, comes..I have always been the anatiycal type of guy rather than the actual doing guy.

Bro, you are just over thinking this by vast amount. Just listen to your favorite rappers, try to see what they are doing, and practice rapping yourself.

Yeah, thats what i am thinking. I guess, it should something that should just happen/flow rather than it all happening systematically like in my head lol. I need to get rid of that approach lol.

right everybody thinks its some kind of formula its not its being creative and being on beat simple
