I'd like to have some advice as to how I can improve as well (as I feel this could be a lot better, and I'm just a beginner at electronic music). By the way, don't suggest Nexus or anything right now since my dad paid for this program just a week ago so it'll be awhile until he buys a VST that's just about the same price as the DAW itself. Is one of the things I need to do to songs I make in the future master them?

Also, the song ended up being a little too long- I really only wanted it to be 3:25.

spent some effort to understand the working of a synth, if you want to get the most out of your software.
after you've done that, most tricks you while recon in all those genres.
 
First mistake, is the intro and hi hat sequence is too long, you will easily lose a listeners attention as in todays time ppl hardly have them. Also your not really playing on rthymn with the percussion, learning that concept and then try listening to these songs you deeply are impressed by take notes of the elements in their songs and try to do similar work as practice until you able to branch into your own sound. Yeah, it came out much longer than I would've wanted it to be. I really only wanted that to last for about 30 seconds. Why did it end up being longer? I dragged my playlist until 195 on FL Studio 11, since I figured that would mean 195 seconds, so just a little over 3 minutes. But it ended up being longer. How would you change the melody?

Are the numbers above the playlist representative of measures rather than seconds? Because seeing it organized in seconds would be a lot more helpful.

Also, can you tell me what number 10 sec., 20 sec., 30 sec., 40 sec., 50 sec., and a minute would fall under on the playlist in FL Studio 11?

First to answer your question yes. you will have to master your works if you want them to be the best quality they can be. The intro is way way too even if it's meant to be mixed, maybe 16 bars tops on that. your synth sounds thin... layer a few together for a fuller sound. make sure you quantinize your notes as well. It's just a bit too simple but i see where you are going. Do a bunch of research on edm music compositions and just start building piece by piece. Keep at it man you will get there. Check me out!

Know of any good music theory tutorials for EDM? I'd like something that doesn't necessarily require plugins I don't have, and could be easy for me to use.
