he's go on the record alot about his use of sp 303....
you should check out the album madvillan with him an mf doom,
also check out his stuff with jay dee of jaylib champion sound.

the quasimoto album is really hot too.
there is an instrumental version of that album that'll give ya a good idea.
mf doom uses the 303 on some of his stuff to and some of company flow was done on an sp 808 wich is really similar.

What is funny here is that people don't seem to think you can make beats on one.
More proof that gear is gear is gear is gear.

like he said man i dont matter what you work with you just gotta use your brain..

rhinestone cowboy and strange ways were 2 beats that were def. made on the 303, probably more from the MadVillian album as well. don't forget Madlib also rocks alot of loops, straight loop jacks that is

thats what really the 303 is good for... ive owned one my self. With the low polyphony you are really finding yourself doing straight loops and drum breaks. but you can flip it dont get me wrong.

used to use an sp303 myself. i really liked it. i currently use an eps-16+ which is a much more powerful sample engine, but the sp303 was great as long as i could find the right samples. such a cool lil interface. i still like a lot of the beats i made with it, it was my first hardware sampler (and the first thing i ever used to sample vinyl) so i got really into it.

one thing to keep in mind is that madlib samples all of his stuff. If your the kinda producer that only uses one shot drum sounds and multisamples then you'd be hard pressed to make music on a 303.

I like madlib a lot too but the people everyone should really be jocking are those 70's funk musicians that made those grooves from scratch.

Amen

can the sp-303 do chops i mean like can i put single drum hits on the pads and have a sample loopin and ****

He definently uses the sp-303, but he also uses the sp1200, i mean there are references to it all over his work, both on the album artwork and lyrics.

I own a sp-303, its a really nice little machine. You gotta have a vision of what you want before you sit down and work, because sometimes you gotta bust all these little tricks. Mostly when chopping.

cool...

youve heard this right?
