RE: The beats that will get you signed..

Wassup FP,

After reading the previous thread titled "The beats that will get you signed".. it made me think...

Why in this day and age (as a rap artist or any type of artist in general) would you really want to be signed?

I mean nowadays a truly talented artist with a little resourcefulness and common sense, I would think, could exploit themselves (rather then being pimped) and reap bigger rewards. What do you think?

I totally agree. THe only thing the majors have to offer really now are contacts and maybe a little extra exposure due to TV connects but hell MTV dont play music videos anymore the radio will play anything that they deem hot and Youtube is really the place to get music and music videos now

I wonder when the mastering music for youtube pdf will come out :D

I guess, day after day, labels can give you less and less reason to sign a deal. Especially, that nowadays, your mother's liquor store is the only thing they don't want money from.

Living in Hungary, I even forgot about the thing. I had responses from big labels like "your music is real good, but we can't sell CDs sorry".

why would a producer want to get signed???

Serious question.

a producer getting signed is likely going to get hoe'd for his/her loot in the long run, ESPECIALLY if you're the type that composes music instead of sampling it.

I say keep freelancing. you can negotiate better publishing deals on an individual basis.

..in case you missed it.

Getting signed will give an artist more exposure and ultimatly they will make more money. The reason alot of artists try to get signed for is for the sales and money imo regardless of the quality of their music. An artist that isn't signed will find it alot harder to get noticed and may never make it like the others do, and they will need a label to release their music as effeciently as possible.
