cause they keep it fresh and give it that raw sound...dunno 'bout Lyricist lounge 2 tho'....a bit disappointed in that:(

Yea man I no what your saying, but the artists that have joined the lable in the last 2-3 years are just getting wicked. It also helps if you are part of a lable who have Mos Def, Talib, Kool G Rap, Common & Sadat X doing collaborations.

Back in the day Deff Jam was the lable to be hooked up with, ( Respect Russell Simmons), You could almost say Rawkus are a moden day Deff Jam.

Rawkus maybe the label of the moment, but for how long?

Dead Prez's Hip hop, Pharoahe monch's Simon says, mos def's LP Blakc on both sides, all rule. But Oh No, just makes me cringe.

I think that they can recognise talent, but they're trying to push it too hard. If they're not careful about what they put out, the only people buying their releases will be buying it with the latest spice girls album.

Mos Defs amazing Umi says on a Nike commercial? Please, just kill me now!

tru dat.
the "soundbombing" stuff is still the lick and and even tho they fell off with LL2 i will still check them...everyone drops a bit now & again...it's still betta than the Dj Clue stuff...rawkus gets nuff rotation.

I dunno, I'm feelin' most of their ish, but LL2 wasn't the best - they didn't really keep the "lyricist" feel. The new Hi-Tek is pretty dope, though.

true indeed

i hear that kid...LL2 came kinda polished....but the Big L track is hot!!!!

I was actually a little disappointed w/ hi-tek's solo. Some of the tracks are instant classics (esp. the one w/ Mood), but some of the songs are just boring, imo. I expected a lot more, I guess.
Oh yeah, LL2 sucked big time. So glad I didn't pay money for it.

Let`s put it in perspective!!!

This is the situation in a nutshell.Rawkus is a label that operates based on cash.Just like any other label, they need a continuous flow of capital. How are they gonna acheive this? With a bunch of "backpack" rappers on the roster that can`t at least go gold? Keep trying to please us with "keeping it real"? How many of y`all out there was there when Rawkus first started? How many of y`all actually purchased official Rawkus product? How many of y`all got it off napster or dubbed it off your man`s cd? For a label to survive, they have to somehow face the challenge of finding that "radio friendly" song that will catapult them ahead. If it was not for Mos, there would be no Rawkus. Before Black On Both Sides, who went gold on Rawkus?? That album brought Rawkus to the forefront. Now the pressure is on to duplicate that success. Watch how Mos` next album is gonna sound. I bet that it`s not gonna be what y`all expected.Just like Monch.I can`t stand his solo album personally. I miss the Organized Konfusion material. But that sh*t did`nt sell. We have to start buying the stuff we love, pay that $15 so we have a real voice. It`s just like politics, money is power. I predict that no other Rawkus album will enjoy gold status again. Look at the roster, who`s next to at least go gold??? Kweli is nice but he lacks that charisma that Mos has. You need a club joint, a anthem to sell records. Plus women buy more albums than men. It`s proven time and time again. Look how Common came out with "The Light". That single blew him up. He is more visible now than he ever was. He is gold status now. Look at the roster at Rawkus. I don`t see any gold on the roster. You have to look at this from a business perspective. What good is good music that does`nt sell??? That`s why I stopped rapping. I don`t want to be stuck trying to please underground fans who don`t buy sh**t, but always got a opinion. Then the label worrying about the bottom line influencing my creative control. But can you blame them???
Peace :(
