Quick questions Midi Out/in MPK49

Make this short and sweet.
My MPK49 USB Entrance broke so now I either pay a hefty 250 dollar repair fee(including part) or I can just use a midi in and out converter to usb. My question here is if it would work the same using midi in and out converter if i had used the normal usb midi output from the mpk49. I know this is my first post here and it looks bad asking for help straight away, but I wanna make sure this works before i pay 40 dollars for the converter. Anyone can vouch? According to the manual midi out pretty much acts as an output for all the midi info being released if the usb is not connected so theoretically it should work, i just want to make sure. I'll make sure to check the forums out and help other people out if they got issues I have come across.

The usb output should be easy to fix, you could solder another output or even a usb-cable where the contacts of the output used to be... The mpk49 is easy to open up and to put back together too, as many have upgraded the drum pads.
