Alright i played bass on a session for a producer that was using reason and was very impressed with the way he manipulated his samples and the sounds. I was planning on purchasing it, but as i did some research i found you can't record audio tracks. Is this true? Maybe I wasnt paying attention, but i could have sworn he was recording my bass into reason. I guess it's possible that he was just using reason's sounds and stuff.

I plan to play live bass and some guitar on my tracks, but also want to be able to sample a little bit and use a midi controller for things like drums, strings, etc. so i would very much like to be able to record audio tracks in addition to the things that reason can do.

What is a good DAW to use if i want to record audio tracks for bass and guitar, sample, and also use a midi controller.

I'm using a PC not a Mac

Take a look at Ableton Live. I'm a Reason user and I'm working with the Live demo at the moment, it's very flexible in terms of sampling, recording, and sequencing. It has some tools you'll probably find to be convenient for what you want to do.

That being said, Reason is still great for what it does. Live is just more capable when it comes to audio, which Reason does not implement.

It was likely he was using an DAW and rewiring Reason. Ableton is pretty tight man, I've been trying it out works real well with my precious Reason, so yeah check them both out, they both have demos online.

If you on the Live demo or the lite version, go a head and get the full fledged joint, you'll be glad you did. As for Reason, there isn't a better/easier/faster combo when it comes to Rewire! Period, don't try to argue, resistance is futile! If you play bass and like Reason, Live will bridge the gap. Phuck all that other sht, this is the best combo! Hands down. I showed a bass player Live and Reason one day. Why when i came back a few days later, she had Live 5, and i was rockin 4 still? For ease of use, experimental fun, linear tracking, loop based recording/sequencing, Live is the best. Fast fun and easy. I can't say enough. If you like Reason and want to couple it was some audio software that will allow you to record your live bass, there's no better option then Live and Reason. I've used all those other technical programs, these 2 are music programs. Hope that helps. (also hope i don't come off as a fan boy, but i am, now pass me my black n orange pom-poms)

Sorry juiceman, acid doesn't compare to Live. I used acid back in the day too, it was my first audio recoding app, and while a great peice of software, Live runs circles around it. If your contemplating the 2, Live gets my vote all day.

I'm the biggest LIVE fanboy on this site.

It's like the ABLETON team looked inside of my brain while I was asleep and saw the DAW I was dreaming of...

... AND MADE ALL OF THE MONEY!

REASON is getting pretty lonely on my system... I normally have a mixer and maybe two or three modules max open in REASON when it's rewired, lol. I have a lot of refills... so REASON has become the equivalent of SampleTank or SonikSynth or something of that nature...

Rome, i swear they made Live just for me; cause i needed something to go with Reason. i'm tellin u, it came from my brain. i was dreaming of a software version of the MPC, and then they made it for me. i'm an evil genious! (even if i can't spell the word)

so would u say levlove that quantizing and recording the notes is better rewire with in ableton, than just using reason alone cause some time have that prob, and i have live lite from my m audio key board...do know if there is any tutorials show the steps and processe

if youre looking to record your bass, reason cant do that. it doesnt have any recording capabilities, other than its internal synths/samplers. i've never used Live before but i've heard a lot of people happy with it. I use Pro Tools and Logic, but lately been doing a lot more work in Logic. i need to try Live though
