Question about my Numark Setup

just got a Numark TT1600 turntable and Numark DM 1050 mixer. I bought a record, threw it on the turntable, everything is hooked up properly, and i hear very faint music playing... do i need to hook anything up to my speakers? is it hooked up wrong? basically what i'm asking is, how do i play and hear the record?
 
Mmmm, well yea you gotta hook your mixer up to speakers. Do you not have anything hooked up to any speakers what so ever? How are you gonna hear anything?

The faint sound is coming from the stylus.
 
i dont have a pre-amp, just a mixer and a turntable. i have a laptop with surround sound speakers...
 
Do you have your speakers wired directly to your mixer? If so that's your problem. You need to get an amp or stereo receiver. You could also try hooking the mixer up to the laptop and using your speakers that way.

So it should look like:
TT --> mixer --> amp/receiver --> speakers
or
TT --> mixer --> laptop --> speakers

Also, so you know, your mixer is a pre-amp.

how would i do this?

the turntable has a ground wire and a red and white set of cords that go into the mixer. then from the mixer, what am i plugging into my laptop? then, what is getting plugged into my speakers?

currently, i have the sub plugged into my computer through an audio splitter(3 plugs, which becomes one that plugs into my headphone jack) and the TT hooked up to my mixer, and the only thing coming out of the mixer is the power supply.
 
Okay, option 1:

Buy a an amp/reciever.

TURNTABLE > MIXER > AMP > SPEAKERS

So the turntables are connected to the 'phono' inputs of the mixer via RCA cables (red and white cables). The mixer's 'main' output connects to an amp input via RCA cables. And the speakers are connected to the speaker terminals of the amp.

Option 2:

Laptop.

TURNTABLE > MIXER > LAPTOP > SPEAKERS

Like above the turntables are connected to the mixer. The 'main' output of the mixer connects to the laptop via an 'RCA - 1/8 Jack (3.5mm) cable' in the 'Line In' or 'Microphone' input. The laptop connects to the speakers.

I would personally buy an amp and some nice speakers if you dont have any already.

How did you expect to hear anything if the mixer isnt connected upto any speakers what so ever may I ask?

it's not that i expected to hear anything... it's that i just didnt know how to hook it up properly

oh and the mic input is 1/4 not 1/8

You have a 1/4 jack input on your laptop? Jesus, haven't seen many like that.

Okay, I didn't mean to offend just curious. Anyway let us know if your still having problems.
 
nah nah... my mixer mic input is 1/4... my laptop is 1/8

so pretty much im buying a 1/4 jack, putting it on my current jack on the speaker plug, and then plugging that into the mixer... correct?
 
huh? what does the mike input have to do with anything you are trying to do? just like everyone has been saying...

Turntable > Mixer > Laptop > Speakers

To be perfectly clear:

TURNTABLE RCAs into the MIXER PHONO IN and TURNTABLE GROUND WIRE to MIXER GROUND CONNECTION

MIXER MAIN OUT RCAs into the SOUNDCARD INPUT ON THE LAPTOP

SOUNDCARD OUTPUT ON THE LAPTOP TO SPEAKERS.

you will need a 2 male RCA to 3.5 inch male to go from the mixer to the laptop - you can buy this from Radio Shack.

this has been discussed at great lengths many times on this forum over the years - please try a search.

my Mac does not have RCA input.. and only one headphone jack

lol, thank you for being patient with my dumbass- appreciate it a lot... but one more question... can i just buy a 1/4 headphone jack and plug that onto my speaker splitter and then plug that into my headphone jack in the front of my mixer? thanks
