I opened up a saved pro tools session and when i went to play the session an
error came up saying "The audio device buffer underflowed. If this occurs
frequently try decreasing the H/W Buffer Size in the playback engine panel or
remove other devices from the audio firewire bus.-(-6085)". There aren't any
other devices except for my mbox in the firewire port and i have tried
decreasing the buffer size...still nothing. I've also tried unplugging
everything and reconnecting and that has not worked either. Please Help!!!

*already contacted tech support...waiting for them to get back to me* not under warranty anymore so i couldnt just call.

If the message said buffer underflowed don't you think you should
increase the buffer instead.

teshan's error dialog said:

I'm merely repeating what the dialog reads!

Well where I went to school underflow means not enough of
something. So I would increase it.But read for yourself and see
if I am wrong.

Read this on page 29 of Pro Tools FAQ pdf.
FireWire Interface / Driver Specific
• –6006 ("DAE error 6006 was encountered.")
• –6085 ("Audio device buffer underflowed. If this occurs frequently
please try increasing the H/W Buffer Size in the Playback Engine
Panel or remove other devices from audio FireWire bus.")
• –6093 ("The operating system held off interrupts for too long. If this
occurs frequently, try increasing the "H/W Buffer Size" in the
Playback Engine panel.")

It looks like the people at Digidesign went to a different school
then me too because it looks like they got it wrong here.

Who to you think has it right.....But if they give you 2 different
answers I guess they got themself covered. What a bunch of
dumbasses.

Increasing doesn't work either. There should be a place on the internet that can answer pro tools problems freely.

Just fixed same problem on my imac!!

Ok last night I unhooked my mbox 2 pro from my computer and when I hooked it back up I kept getting -6085 error message......same as you.So I tried things mentioned in other forums and this one to fix it. Nothing seemed to fix it. So for some reason I plugged my mbox 2 pro to the other firewire port I had and everything works great now. I have no idea why I just know that everything works good again. So just give it a try, can't hurt anything. Hope this helps.

Try changing the firewire cable port to a different port .I had this same problem error 6085- and this worked for me runs like a dream now......

there still isn't a BOTTOM LINE answer to this problem?

does it really matter what fukcin' CHIPSET you have???

what solved my problem was going into the B.I.O.S. of the pc and turning ON the HYPER THREADING feature.

i think that error is MAINLY based on cpu power, and not just the raw gHz speed, but also other technologies that cpu's are designed with.

pc-wise, i recommend DUAL-CORE or more just to play it safe.

mac-wise, get an intel-based chip...IF NEEDED.

in my experience, PPC chips run ProTools a tad smoother than older Intel chips, but NOW, get the best cpu & the most R.A.M. your resources will allow...you won't be sorry; or frustrated.

This just worked for me too. Switched to the other firewire port on the back of the MBOX 2 PRO and now it seems to be working fine. Only problem is, I'm now running the session off of my internal HD. Oh well, at least I can get to work and figure it out some other time.
