They do wear a little bit more than the Shures, but the Scratch needle is much easier on your wax than other Ortofon needles. A little more weight is needed overall compared to the Shure. I would go with the OM version though, unless you're stuck on the concorde. I've gotten better performance out of the OM--but that's just me personally. Since we're on the subject, I have to admit that I am using my Ortofons 98% vs. 2% for the Shure needles.

Ortofons wear the most out of all the DJ carts. plus doesnt help when everyone drops all that weight on them.

are you talking stylus wear or record wear? if you are talking record wear, sorry - stanton groovemasters have any ortofon beat hands down. i honestly think the groovemasters use a sewing needle for the stylus. i've used ortofon djs concordes for the last few years and have been very happy with the tracking, sound quality and record wear compared with anything else i've used. i'm using an M44-7 now just to check the shures out and while the jury is still out, i'm really happy with it in all respects. - jeff h

As long as you stick with the Scratch carts, you'll be fine. Any other Ortofon has highly noticable record wear. On some records I can use as little as 3 grams. For normal DJing (Hip Hop) and maximum skip resistance under ANY circumstance, I use 4 grams. At 4, I have NOTHING to worry about.

For the record, Stanton 500s back in the day used to leave a high pitched noise w/ static in the wax completely overtaking the music. Between the 44-7, G, and the Scratch cart, the DJ world is very lucky these days.

I was scratching it up with ortofon needles the other day, was mounted on normal technics headshells... didn't have any skippage, however I could physically see the "once was attached to the vinyl" all over the needle... so watever he was using, it burn the wax like a mofo... ohh well, not mine :p

(but if they were my records then I'll be crying fo sure)

cuz they are the best, that is why all the clubs i've played at have them, the reason for the OM is that the fist gen concords the contact points were a little too short for the contact points in the tone arm and you hear people had to lick them to get them going, so ortofon made the concord mountable on the standard technics headshell to solve this problem. But they are industry standard at least for DJs that mix, not for scratch junkies.
