DJ AK
Wut up its been a while its DJ AK chopped and blazed.. an im bout throwed seriously and bout to throw this damn mixer..
First, when i got it, along with the odysey dj stand which was banged up, and itd cost just as much as i paid for it to send it back...the mixer had the CFB trebel kill switch turned to the left a little, like for right handed people i guess. i figured it was like this for a reason to be easy on right handed fingers considering the FX selector knob/transition like slider was slanted for right handed mother****ers only. Anyway, I looked at the other CFA&B Kills and they were all str8... So i looked at the trebel kill once again and gave it a slight twist and made it was str8...i was thinkin whatever im happy i finally got this, i waited a long time. Ok next, the Intensity fader, for the FX, it is very...sensitive. which is good for me, as im a careful mixer..it will light up green once the signal is getting a wet process from the effect. however it didnt light up until it doesnt light up until its engaged 25%. Yes there is a Bottom line, which is 0%, half way line, and it doesnt get green until its almost to the 50% line. Which is very bad when doing echoes because they come in so wet. And by the way, it has FX, yah they are good but the echo could be better... and the tape echo sounds cheap... flange is very "narrow sounding" (dunno how else to explain that) but they arent the worst. but if dont stay on top of the fx youre using, ull put a Low pass or HP Filter right into the mix...i think the LP Should be underneath the HP, to go from top to bottom and sweep..., but they are underneath the flange and phaser and if u had the FX Switch on bottom using a reverb [sometimes i do this on voice overs] and then go right to get a flange on your deck... u might get a lp filter...its just something i had to get used to. but tonight i found the trebel kill on my CFB broken. I do use my kills a lot. I will do my breaks, and cut them in and out with the CF Kills [sometimes i use upfader, but the kills are faster, sound better and i dont have the right phono/line transition switch to do it the "right way" or the way i would prefer. Anyways, i dont think i broke it, i took it apart and looked at it. What it is, i dont know how else to explain this, when u pull the kills down it only kills them temporarily till u release them, then they pop back up, thats how i do my "transition breaks". Or, if you turn them up, they lock into place and kill the bass/mid/treb until u put them back to the middle. Very handy, but now my trebel wont lock into the middle or up. those kills were really the most use from that mixer 2nd to the Xfader, good for my style of scratching...
and the upfader... It keeps coming off on my scratches, sometimes when im not even scratching, toilet paper worked but i got tired of it stickin out so tape worked good...for a while.
So...i just now find out its retired, and there is a DXM9, basically the 09 with an updated look to it, and looks like it has better faders/knobs, whether there still plastic or not, to me it just looks more durable...
I just hope i can get this repaired, and if possible, get a DXM 9
does anyone kno anything about the 9? because im thinking about getting one. it might sound like im bashing the 09, but its a really good mixer for the money, but maybe this was just my luck because im in the middle of a mixtape that im about to get mastered and duplicated and put it in the mom and pops round here...and then this **** happens
anyone?
EDIT: Sorry, its called the Numark X9, and what i have is the Numark DXM09
