Hi guys,

I'm new at this in the sense of I really want to give production a go but have yet to buy the equipment. To start with I am thinking of getting an Akai MPD32 and a Novation Launchkey 49 or an M-Audio Oxygen 49, I have speakers and I have Logic Pro X already.

I just need to know is the above all I need to start making music i.e will they plug straight into my laptop and I am good to go or do I need an external component like a mixer to plug them in to?

Any recommendations on which hardware to get would also be welcomed.

Cheers

Mpd32 is very good.
Pianos have pads? axiom, mpk etc.
piano no pads?keystation etc.

if a daw has a piano roll, nothing else is needed besides plugins and preferences come after that.
Audio interface is highly recommended.

You do not NEED an MPD32. You can bang out dope drums on keys and/or on pads on a MIDI keyboard. Don't get me wrong, an MPD does looks cool, but you do not need one. Hope this helps.

MIDI keyboards, these days, plug straight into your computer with USB. Just make sure you have an available port. I have had trouble in the past due to too many USB devices. I actually had to buy a separate USB hub. Something to keep in mind.
