ive been producing music for quite a while now, a this moment i have focusrite 212 interface and mxl 770 mic. i have a built soundproof vocal booth. and 2 krk 5s and a variety of headphones to mix. i am having trouble mixing the vocals to sit right on the beat. ive tried several techniques but it always seems like something is missing.

can someone explain what im doing wrong if i am.

Vocals didn't sound too bad to me. The only things that come to mind are:

1. Remove noise. Even though you have a good recording booth set up, there may still be a bit of noise that's brought up once the vocals are compressed

2. Maybe the reverb you put on there just doesn't mesh well with the instruments' reverb.

Actually, i just gave it another listen.. Try compressing it harder. I think it doesn't "sit right" because the dynamic range is too large.

Nowadays vocals are compressed to the extreme. Try having a simple leveling compressor first in your chain to reduce peaks, then add your own compressor after that for the aesthetic/typical compressed sound.

Hope that helped at least a bit. Solid track overall though. Like really good I mean!
