Whats up FP!

With so many producers concerned with selling beats, it's easy to overlook the other aspects of conducting business online. Take blogging for instance. Blogging serves as an outlet for promoting shows, events, specials, updates, ideas, and point of views. Blogs are written for a number of reasons. Whatever the case, using one on your website is a non-intrusive way to gain more listeners and expand your reach to people.

When starting my website, last year, I post a new article once per month. Due to recent discoveries am finding ways to blog 2-3 times per week. The reason for this dramatic increase in blog activity is simple. My goal is to drive more traffic to my website. I wanted more credibility when working with other professionals and to gain more business, locally and online. When I started this online business, I knew absolutely nothing about owning or running a website. Now I'm conducting business regularly online and making more sells than ever before. My only regret is not building my website earlier.

I just wanted to share this information with you guys. After all, this is one of my favorite forums and a lot of you are my friends. I'm always looking for ways to make my blog articles more informative and helpful to readers. Feel free to check it out and let me know what you think in this thread. If there's a music business or production related subject that you want help with, post it here and I may blog about it later.

That's a good idea for some people. Bad idea for others, IMO.

Your site looks nice, and your blog posts are informative. But I can see some people using a blog to vent, and you don't want anything on your website (or anywhere, for that matter) that shows you complaining, being negative, or flaming someone in any way.

I guess it comes down to the subjects and content. Maybe I'm being too obvious, too. But the last thing you want is to put up a blog post like "This is what sucks about music", which you get on FP all the time. Then a prospective investor or A&R sees it and is like "Whaaaa?"

Co sign! As long as you're posting quality content, blogging is a great way to get web traffic! I've seen my traffic Quintuple from blogging! Seriously, blogging can make a big difference. Great post!

You're right about that, nobody likes reading from complainers. I've learned that it's best to blog about stuff that you like instead things you don't. Also, it's best to write about what you're most interested in. Whether it be about music, video games, movies, or all of the above. This gives other people a chance to relate to you and makes the task of blogging much more bearable IMHO.

blog professionally what I mean by that...if you're doing this music or in my case music and music business I want to show potential artists,producers,investors...that I'm a professional, have set goals, and important not "self-centered".

internet stuff like ppl,lol is okay this are standard in the world of the internet and texting

this are my opinion
I think we should be making a stickies for this section with
titles like this
1.blogging the right way and the wrong
2.have to put together a tour
3.how to put together a stellar website
4.how to drive traffic to your website

Producer JC has a group called the The Affiliates
which I believe can become an amazing force here on FP and the internet
we need to become the ppl on this business section to move it to another level...

@ JC & Zeeofafbllac - OK. So let me ask you this... As an artist or producer, would you promote the blog seperately from your music site? I'm sure the obvious answer is "yes". But I had a blog for about 10 minutes a couple years ago, and I found it was like starting all over again to promote THAT. At that time, I factored in time spent, and found I couldn't do it. Nowadays, I've dedicated more time to this, so I could be due for another attempt.

I recommend keeping them separate because processing payments on a website is expensive and time consuming. When you use other platforms; like soundclick, or iTunes for performing artist; these companies assume responsibility for the required security and disclosures associated with accepting payments online. This doesn't mean that you shouldn't sell anything from your website though. I'm mostly referring to digital downloads. Merchandise like hats, t-shirts, jump drive, etc. are best sold from a website, via PayPal. There's no need for taking or holding anyone's personal information; therefore, no need for expensive security protection. PayPal is the most affordable and time saving way to process transactions on most personal websites, for this kind of content.

If you decide to do both, put your digital download on a platform designed for such content and promote that content through your website. Promoting in this fashion remains non-intrusive and gives listeners a reason to like you more. People buy from people they like 80% of the time and are forced to buy from people they don't 20% of the time.

If you do decide to do your blog on a seperate site...it will just be part of your mini-network
1.main website(main website will have link to all this on the front page so ppl can go there right away
2.facebook
3.twitter
4.myspace
5.myblogger
6.soundclick
7.soundcloud
8.reverbnation
etc...etc...

Much respect to ProducerJC, been seeing kicking knowledge and just being real on this site #salute

increase traffic to your website and your soundcloud at the same time

well, I know a way to both increase traffic to your webpage and your soundcloud at the same time..

first of all, this website will get you real human to human plays and comments for free (no bots!)

FREE SoundCloud Promotion! - .:: Cloudkillers ::.

Now, if you want to increase traffic to your webpage at the same time, put the link for it in the descriptions of all of your songs on soundcloud.. then as people listen to your stuff on the site I linked, they'll check out your page from the link as well quite often if they like your tunes ;)

Very great info! I have to agree with everything I have read here. Having your own blog is very powerful and can get you some great pr for the future
