MPC4000: Installation of OS 1.70

Iam sitting here trying to install the OS for my mpc.

How do i do this?
Ive clickt on the OS loader software but it says the device needs to be conect via USB. But it is conected (from the bak of mpc to pc).

Do i have to conect it from the front of the mpc? if so then do both USB heads have to be the same? coz thats the only way my pc can handle it.

I am pretty sure this is well explained both in the manual, and in some text file which is available with the OS file on the AKAI website

The 4000 has 2 USB ports. One is a master port to plug your peripherals (cd-rom, hard disk, zip, etc) and one is a slave port to plug to a master usb device (your computer)

i dont own a 4000 but i am pretty sure you need to plug the computer to the 4000 via the 4000's slave port...

You may need to set the 4000 in some sort of MODE to load the OS... On the 1000, you have to hold the WINDOW button while turning the unit on... It must be something similar on the 4000.

no no no ... that was for the 1000

I just gave you an example... OS loading geenrally happens when you power up...

You need to READ THE MANUAL (sorry again - but this IS in the manual for sure!) - look for this info there!

1.70 is out. Im using it right now. Rock solid. Here is the link.

To load you will need to use the usb port on the back of the mpc4000. This is the slave port Mano mentioned. Now, download the os, unzip and drag it into a folder on akai sys. I created a folder with all of the os's just in case I need to go back to an older version. Once you have it in the folder, go to the load page (within the 4000, dont try to load it from akai sys as it wont work) and open the folder with the os. And hit load. Thats it! You should be done.




Oh, and Mano. I dont post here often but i do come to the boards a lot to read. I did a search on the casio sk1 and found out that you have one. I just found one for about $7.00 and this thing is loads of fun. Try sampling an 808 bassline, and layer it over a clean one. Then filter out the hiss from the sk1 bassline and add a little decay at the end. That alone made my 808 punch harder than ever before. I love this thing.

I like the choice of enveloppes on it (hold envelope button, press one of the keyboard keys with the env graph/labels)...

I often play whole melodies with it.

I ran one of my mixer's SEND to the SK-1's MIC input... It's so much fun to send anything to it and sample BACK into an MPC or recorder :)

whats akai sys all about?
is that in my mpc or do i have to load it onto my computer?


ive also donloaded all the Ooperating systems.
 
i think someone already explained to you what AK SYS was somewhere in your threads actually.

Look in your manuals :) ...

I NEVER get impatient with people's questions, but this is something you bought - you should at least know that one of the MAIN advantages of the 4000 compared to the other (cheaper) models is the AK SYS software...
