MPC3000 Operating System Upgrade Vailixi 3.50

If I have OS 3.11 on the ROM, and I want to hold onto that for compatibility's sake, is there a way I can use 3.50 from a ZIP disk? (I no longer have a floppy drive)

Thanks

Never mind, just saw what was written about the no-floppy policy in the new version.

Hi BigRyan,

"Compatibility sake".

For "compatibility sake".

All save and load operations are carried out in the good old way they always have been since version 3.11/3.12. ( and even earlier )

Nothing changes where save and load operations are concerned.

Your point raised is a valid one though so I'll add it to the FAQ some time soon before people become confused over missing info and perpetuated myths.

Some thing a long the lines of:

Q: My MPC3000 uses OS 3.16 or earlier ( includes OS 3.11 ).
Can my existing projects created within my MPC3000's earlier OS be loaded into a Vailixi 3.50 equipped MPC3000 ?
A: Yes.

Q: If I save my work onto disk from within an MPC3000 equipped with Vailixi 3.50.
Can all files saved be loaded and used on MPC3000's installed with OS versions less than and including OS 3.16 ( includes OS 3.11 )?
A1: If the files created within a Vailixi 3.50 upgraded MPC3000 are saved onto disks formatted using the "standard MODE0 option" within Vailixi 3.50 then yes.
A2: If the files created within a Vailixi 3.50 upgraded MPC3000 are saved onto disks formatted by an MPC3000 installed with an OS version less than and including 3.16 ( includes 3.11 ) then yes.
A3: If the files created within a Vailixi 3.50 upgraded MPC3000 are saved onto disks formatted by an MPC60 equipped with Roger Linn Design's 3.10E OS and MARION SYSTEM SCSI board then yes.

Nope.

Not on floppy and the system doesn't support booting from ZIP ( or any other connected SCSI device )

The "no floppy policy" is for the technical reasons described.

Thanks for your interest and input.

Kind regards,

Rohan.

It only reads SNDs but it's REAL easy to convert between the two.

The new operating system makes it so the MPC and PC can read the disks, regardless of the operating system on the PC (before, only Windows 95 and 98 could read them). That's actually a big selling point for me. I have a Windows 98 machine sitting here with no other purpose than to transfer samples to/from the ZIP drive.

As far as I know, the 3K does not separate into folders, so you'll just have to name everything appropriately to avoid confusion. You *can* separate into equally-sized partitions.

damn........i love that about the New Mpc's is that you can separate **** into new folders......see i have a 1k........but i have a usb zip with a whole bunch of disk and i was saying i always wanted a 3k......maybe just run the drums from the 3k and samples from 1k i dont know.....maybe that folder issue will be in the Update huh??????
