I have an MPC 2000. Im just gettin started and have read the user manual only once pretty quickly. I just picked up a used IOMEGA 100mb zip buts its a parellel instead of SCSI. I need to know if this can ever be compatible via new cords or whatever. Also other than a reciever, record player, cd player etc. what other hardware do you think ill need to start making beats. Any help would be great. gracias

thats all u need. in the future... monitors and a track recorder/mixer of some sorts...

thx fellas appreciate the insight i have been trying to hook up that damn zip drive and the MPC is like "wait...." and then besically freezes up. have you guys seen this or is my MPC fukt ?! i hope not.

Peace

No your zip end , need to be scsi, the if you got the MPC2000xl you need that smaller end of the scsi to it cord. I have a chain if 250 zip, Glyph CDROM and a 9gig Hard drive scsi running in a chain and it works beautifully.

Can't use Parallel Zips.

Must use SCSI.

Don' even connect that Parallel Zip onto your MPC.

Good luck and peace.

Yep, and don't even try a 'SCSI-to-Parallel' convertor, it wont work.

what you can do is use the parallel drive in your computer (if it has a printer port).

on a side note i am having a problem with a scsi cdr drive and was wondering are the actual cables (scsi and parallel) the same?... i am starting to think that they are not and i may be using the wrong type of cable.

The cables are different. Even if it's a SCSI cable, you need to ensure it's the right type of SCSI cable as there are quite a few different SCSI interfaces. I dont recall what interface the MPC2000 uses, possibly a standard 25-pin SCSI (the XL is a 50-pin micro)

if im right you only need a cable not a converter , im pretty sore parallel is SCSI anyhow , i have an mpc2000 and it has the micro looking fine pins 50 i thinks! and my zip has the same connection as parrallel , i just got the lead that looks the same as my zip and MPC and set the zip to scsi ID5 with termination on, and hey boom music!!!

hope it helps - jazzur

Fellas..you need a SCSI Zip drive with a SCSI cable only. Do not use anything else or you may blow your SCSI interface. Also, not all SCSI drives are equal or compatible with the MPC. Akai use to have a list of tested drives on their site. I may have it somewhere. If requested, I will locate it and email it to anyone who wants it.

The MPC 2000 has a 25 pin female SCSI interface. In most cases, SCSI zip drives have the same interface, so you will need a 25 pin to 25 pin SCSI cable. A quick search on Yahoo should put you on the right track.
