MPC 500, Zoom R16 - Good Start?

I plan on making beats from now on with the MPC 500 ($300) and the Zoom R16 ($400). As you can see, i'm on a very low budget (about $900).

Is this a good start, or should I consider other options???

OR the keyrig 49 and MBox 3 with Pro tools.

$900 can get you a decent start for an entry-level production setup.
