Has anyone ever had this happened to them?
When I first started producing at age 17 for fun I would literally RUN home from school as quickly as possible to hop onto FL (no midi controlled, shitty speakers, and a piano near by) and crank em out!

6 Years later, now that I'm professionallly remixing/pumping out originals (switched from hiphop to electro) somewhere along the line it has become more of a chore than anything else?

I still love it and think about it all day, but I've lost that magnetic attraction to my piano/daw!

I still produce but I don't have melodies ripping through my head all day anymore!

I just hit the box and try and piano roll something...which is kind of sad...it feels forced

Anybody else had this problem/found a way to deal with it?

Try a new setup, maybe. Instead of working in a DAW, grab some hardware.

Yeah, I dunno man, I tried switching up the equipment but didn't really help, cheers though

Add variety. Build a challenge. You're probably bored cause you're doing the same style : electro stuff or hip hop. The brain is powered by variety. Do something new and you'll be like , "hmmm...i wonder if this will work. bla bla."

Best thing to do is take a break and find something else to do. It will come back to you. happens to me every few years.

agreed, a break is sometimes needed. been there myself before but inspiration will hit you again im sure of it

it sounds like cause you made it out of a career you have gotten immune to music cause you have done so much of it for money im about the same age as you and stated about the same time with fruity loops aswell and crappy speaklers lol .bti havent yet made a music career i just started with my site and making beats and i started pressuring myself to make more beats when i dont want to and i notice a little of me felt what you were talikng so i took a break for week and it came back i guess you need a bigger break

It's because it became more about the money. Now you've got deadlines, expectations, and other 'creative-blocks' in your head they're stopping you from ENJOYING and being passionate about creating music. When you first started you were learning new things, everything was exciting because you didn't know what you were going to do and it was like there was a whole world of possibility.

Not saying you shouldn't make money off your music because that really is a great thing. But remember that no matter how much money you're making off it, the primary reason you should be doing it should be enjoyment. That's the reason (i'm assuming) we work so hard to get into a position where you could make music for a living. Other wise why not just get a regular 9 - 5?

Point is, even if musics your career, treat it as art. Take some time off and look at your reasons WHY you step behind the keyboard now. How are they different from when you did 6 years ago? I'm going to bet you'll find different motives now than you did then for making music, and that's where the loss of passion is stemming from.

Woh bro, that was deep.

Yeah Its not even about the money, I don't care about it at all (well some what)

But yeah the deadlines defiantly cause a bit of stress for sure.

Like you said the enjoyment just isn't there any more, partially do to the lacking flow of ideas, and lacking creativity is an entirely different feeling.

I just don't get that fulfilment any more when I do sit down to bang one out even If I am stoked on the idea.

Gotta keep working at it for sure.

it happens sometimes...just like writer's block. you gotta find what made you love it...brought you in to it...and expand it from there. <--that is all.

Why not go back to fruityloops and run home again (By car) Not in a bad way, just saying do the old stuff again for kicks!
For you its a gig and you cant really quit unless you want to flip burgers or go homeless.
I cant feel sorry for you if your making money making music, or well... beats or bloops..if it brings home cash then sounds good!

If your making bank then hire an associate to get less work and farm him out.

Im in the same boat, first year I hit 50 home runs, second year was pretty good and Im burnt out but I have to try again because I like food and I have eaten from trash cans before and its ok, but it gets old so I keep working and I deal with the stress and the flakes and the junkies and try to be better then them.

Hmm. Do you still enjoy listening to music like you used to? It could be that you're just not enjoying music in general anymore.

Yeah i say you gotta go back and listen to them blowers you were making way back when, and maybe go back to Hip Hop ??? Peace

Maybe invest in some narcotics.

listen to some musical genres that you've never heard. that helps w some inspiration

Sounds like you have lost the love of creating. It usually happens to me, when I'm worried about chasing placements, or it could be the environment you are creating in. What i suggest is just have fun with it, invite some artists over, and just enjoy creating.

This industry will ruin you. I've also lost all my passion. I wish I could help with advice. :(
