Yo what's up,

1) when I do 16 levels by tune on say.. a violin that is looped, I'm having problems. when I clcik on say pad 10, hold it down, and then hold press and hold pad 16, they play together but the moment I let go of pad 10, pad 16 turns off. it's realy annoying. what am I doing wrong? i'm tryin to get this playin like a piano.

2) is there a trick to finding loop points? what I do first is run my sample through fruity loops and see if it automatically loops by setting loop points. if it does, i use it. if it doesn't loop, i don't use it because I can't get the loop feature down in the mpc 1000. is there a trick? i tried looping a few bass sounds, but i kept getting a crack.

Thanks for the help. Oh also, I'd like to note that I had a MPC2k, Fruity Loops+ Oxygen 8, and Triton Studio and I couldn't get the vibe right with my equipment, but with the mpc1000 i finally feel at peace wit it!

movingt his to the SAMPLERS FORUM as most MPC 1000 discussions (and experts!) are there

:)

I'll try to help you here. I use and love the MPC 1000 :)

1) Make sure you have your sounds set to NOTE ON (if i remember correctly... i am not in front of my MPC at the moment). To do so, press the WINDOW button when you are in PROGRAM MODE and have tapped the pad you want to edit. Try this first...

2) it is actually very easy to loop right in the MPC. I am surprised to report that I have not felt the need to open Sound Forge to do things i couldnt do from the MPC itself. There are not too many EDIT features but to me it is enough to work with. Here is some advice that will help you:

Use the Zoom feature (press the WINDOW button when you are editing LOOP in the TRIM MODE). When zoomed in, dial the BEGIN and END points so the waves "meet" in the middle. It is hard to explain in text but basically you don't want to BREAK the waveform, instead you want the points to be on the ZERO point (in the middle) and have the wave "continue" on the other side. IE if the slope goes DOWN on the end point, make sure it goes UP on the being point).

BTW this is pretty much valid to any sampler.

Hey Mano thanks for the detailed reply,

1) yeah, in program mode they're set to "note on". Also, in loop mode, "loop" is set to "on.

the thing is, when I play the keys with 16 levels (tune) on, I get the problem. I hold one pad, ie a violin, and when I press the second pad, i can't make the smooth transition between sounds. if i do, the sounds will both cancel out as soon as i lift my finger off one of the pads. the only way I can do it is to play one pad, lift my finger completely, and then hit the next pad. this isn't normal, right?

2) i can't seem to get this right just yet, i'll keep practicing though.

here's a few tips for you to try. Like mano said make sure you are in note on so as long as you have the pad down it will play and record. 2nd how long is your loop. Also is it played lived. If its played live, not too many of us on earth can play at the same tempo throught a passage, so if your loop is live and longer than 2 bars, I suggest that you chop it. 3rd for me I don't use auto loop on any program. Get dirty and find it yourself. I know this takes longer, but this is one skill you must master. One more tip if you deceide to chop it make sure that you have the pads turn each other off so they don't bleed onto each other. Last thing. Check out something like audition and recycle, or if you are broke look into audacity and beatreator since you have FL. Audacity is free and beatceator is like 30 dollars, but the will allow you to edit and chop and export them to wav's and you just load them into your MPC and you can play back the loop and your tempo that you want.

Hey Bluhnt,

Ooh, I'm not talking about finding the loop for a sound anymore.. I figured that outl, kinda.

What I'm trying ot do is play the keys as if I was playing a keyboard. I assign a violin that is set to "loop" through trim mode and "note on" through program mode to a pad. Apply 16 levels of "tune" on that pad, and try to play it as a violin. Instead of playing pads smoothly, say from pad 12 to 16, I can only play one at a time. If I play two at the same time, the moment my finger leaves one pad then BOTH keys autmoatically turn off.

How do you get the 16 level "tune" to make the pads act like a keyboard?

ou know worst case make a PROGRAM for this violin.. then hit each pad and assign your sample - to each

each time, set the TUNE parameter incrementally higher (or lower)

this way you have "true" separation betwen your tones - they will NOT cut each other.

BTW you can hit more than 16 levels this way - because of the banks you have (A, B, C, etc).

In fact you can do this with a keyboard plugged on the MPC via MIDI, and play your melodies from there using this method - 16 levels does NOT allow that (only from the pads, and only 16 notes).

It is time consuming but well worth it... Then save your "Mapped Violin" PROGRAM in a separate folder with its samples, to reuse in later projects.

mano you are the mon (get it?)

haha aiite thanks man ima try that, i had thought the mpc could simulate the keys but i guess not.

i got a yamaha dgx300 that i never use cause it's only got general midi, but i guess it's coo for now. i'll also try mapping out the pads the way you said.

much props for the help.. pZ.

yo,

i'm having trouble getting this to work correctly. i got the mpc midi out to keyboard midi in, and then vice versa. i can play sounds through the 16 pounds just the way i was hoping for from last time.

now, recording the midi data through the mpc (as master) goes well. i can't seem to save the data correctly though.

when i turn the keyboard on and off, the midi doesn't select the right sound. say, i recorded sequence data on the mpc containing a conga sound. if i turn off the keyboard off and on, press play on the mpc 1000, then the sound goes back to the default piano.

i'm using a yamaha dgx 300 right now. i've read the mpc 1000 and just can't get this right. i have a feeling it has to do with my keyboard and maybe the 16 midi channel feature?

hey futuredood

yes you need to save your sound configuration on your keyboard and load it again so the MPC's tracks trigger the right sounds on your keyboard.

If your keybaord accepts program changes, there may be a way to add them to the MPC1000's sequences on each tracks - but I haven't looked into this yet so I am not sure.

I generally save a MULTI PROGRAM on my rack sampler which I use as a sound module (EMU E5000). The MULTI is a list of patches ot load (for example 1:piano, 2:violin, etc)
