I was looking at the native instruments websites and I see they have the Kore player for free and I see that Kore 2 costs like 500 something dollars. I'm thinking the only difference between the two is that Kore 2 comes with the controller so would I be find just downloading the free Kore Player and not miss out on anything? all I want is the sounds.

no way dude.
are you sure, i need those sounds.

word?

can you place a link? i want to download it!

just go to Nativeinstruments.com and click on products, from there scroll down to producer, click the link and you will find Kore Player, they said it was free to download the player, it comes packed with sounds already. plus the additional sound packs are at a decent price.

If I just wanted to use it for it's Kore Sounds and host it in a DAW would I be find just going with the Kore Player?

Well the differences are that using the Kore Player you can only use the sounds that come with it or purchase a soundpack to load into it; it lacks automation for the morph control; there are no internal fx; no import functionality for Komplete 5 sounds; no 3rd party plugin importing; and no multi-layering of sounds.

Kore 2 isn't just the Kore Player + a controller, it's a more functional way to organize and create sounds. Think of it sort of like this: Kore Player = Rompler, Kore 2 = Workstation.

With Kore Player you can still automate some morphing with the MIDI learn function. It works with any MIDI controller. The Kore Player is a VST instrument, after all. I've done it with my MIDI keyboard... assigned 2 faders to the X and Y properties of the morph thing (unless you're talking about something else). And with the faders I can morph between the 8 variations per patch.

Kore Player does come also with a KorePlayer FX module, just for using it's effects.

Kore 2 has more detailed sound editing and more controller options. And can be used with the dedicated controller.

Could you sequence with Kore 2 or do you just use it to put sounds together? does it operate like a DAW?

Cool, I wasn't aware of that being fixed. The first versions of the player didn't have this or at least I wasn't able to get it to work.

I wouldn't say Kore 2 is really a DAW, you can do some basic sequencing using the step sequencer or more complex sequencing by using some of the Reaktor sequencing ensembles. What it doesn't have is the ability to record the audio input.
