Wussup FP, I've got somethin i've been thinkin about...I can pick up Komplete 3 for a pretty decent price, I do have the money for Komplete 4 but i could spend that on somethin else, what makes Komplete 4 stand out above and over Komplete 3, can ya help me out? I'm a hip-hop oriented producer

Komplete 4 has FM8, Absynth 4, Battery 3, and Akoustik Paino.

Komplete 3 has FM7, Battery 2, Kompakt, Intakt, and Absynth 3.

The rest of the stuff is the same.

Either one would work great. Get three and when you get more cash down the road, upgrade to four for less cash. That way you'd have it all.

But I really don't see hip-hop production needing all those programs...unless you want to be really innovative.

It's a nice all in one setup. I'd personally pick up komplete 3 if its a really good price.

I agree with Trusty. A lot of the time especailly in hip hop less is more the innovation comes from makin what u have do things it wasnt meant to do

I only own two NI products, Reaktor 5 and Intakt. I love them a lot, but I don't go for the whole Komplete thing. In my opinion, there are better alternatives that fit my needs than what is in that whole lot. FM7 or FM8 might be added o my collection at some point, but the FM4 ensamble that comes with Reaktor suits me fine for FM needs for now since I am not the greatest at programming FM synths as it is...though I do love that digital, harsh sound of FM...which is why I dug FM7 with what little I played with it. But then again, there are others like Sytrus and TOxic that sound very good as well.

i gotta get up on FM8 how much does it go for?
i got the demo for fm8 and its pretty damn good, dunno how much it goes for though.

FM8 is $299.00

I get all my stuff academic, so the cost for that is only $129.95

The difference is that one is for students.

Not everyone is a student... Buying academic licenses if you are not a student is essentially piracy.

This is why not everyone buys academic :)

I hope this helps.

yeah thanks mano, makes sense, ive just noticed em floatin around on ebay..i am technically a student hehe

Most academic licenses prohibit making money with them. That's the main point - they're for learning, not business.

Music software doesn't generally prohibit that. It is just another market for retailing the product. With production software, the only thing added to the OUTSIDE of the shrinkwrap is a sticker. There is nothing different about them whatsoever...now, other types of software is a different story, but there are no such restrictions that I've encounted with music software.

All that aside, it pays to be in college. To get the discout, you do have to get them current registration info, school ID, and a copy of transcript and current schedule before you can buy anything. Since I will be enrolled in college classes for the rest of my life, it is a nice bonus to get the music stuff cheaper.

I wouldn't call buying it while not being a student on the same level as piracy. Having a student friend buy you an academic version isn't the same thing as them buying you booze if you are a minor or anything either... I mean, these students "discounts" are still generating a profit, no "discount" is sold for a loss unless you are Wal-Mart and can make it up elsewhere. And since they are still making a profit of these academic versions, it really speaks to the mark-up things things have at their MAP prices to say nothing of MSRP prices...

Just food for thought.
