I was listening to some old Usher songs when I came accross Come Back from his 1997 My Way album. I just couldn't beleive the resemblance with California Love, I meen its obvious when you listen to the background piano riff. I never really liked Jermaine Dupri but to find something this obvious on one of his song is just lame.

Remember that California Love is a sample/interpolation. It's very possible for 2 producers to use the same sample/interpolation.

Jermaine Dupri is often left out of the great producer conversations...wrongly i might add.

JD's been doing it since like the late 80's and everything he touches goes platinum. I mean EVERYTHING.

I don't think he hasn't had a project that he's been involved with go platinum.

JD is the man with the hits. You gotta respect his mind and his music.

Its a sample Like mentioned above, JD is also known for just reusing other peoples beats and slapping a new vocalist over it. He did it with Hi Teks "The Blast" he put some R&B chick over the exact same beat. He also did it on the New 112. He took Jay Z's parking lot pimpin beat that Rick Rock Made and added a few different sounds over it probably the worst song on that album.

Janet's latest went platinum? never would have guessed.

I wonder how instrumental Janet was in Jermaine's new position at her label, Virgin...

YOU MUST BE KIDDING!!!

she's janet jackson!

going platinum is failure for her.

she can go plat by accident.

i don't think that group that had a single on "Torque" OST did go platinum either..

"Talking bout he's gonna slap me. Nigga please
You gotta jump and swing up to hit me in the knees "...

Oh wait, that was about JaRule not J.D.
Oh well. :)

Remember the JD/Dr.Dre beef. The song on Encore was funny as shyt. Also one of my favorite songs on that album.

I used to have a freestyle where Dre and Timbaland clowned him together. The end of it was Dre calling Tim on the phone and Tim told JD what he could do for him...

It was funny.

Speaking of beefs is that one Ras Kass track really a Game diss? I think its called Caution, its hot.

why were they beefing?

Don't make me lie, but it something along the lines of Dre and Timbaland being overrated, I think JD said this in an interview.

Something like that. JD got mad that he wasn't getting props like Tim, Dre and Puff and said to put them all in a room and give them a certain amount of time and see who could come out with a complete hit. He said he wrote his own lyrics and made his own beats and he wasn't trying to start shyt, he was saying that in HIS OWN EYE that he was on their level and better at making a hit by himself.

Basically saying he was the most all around talented as far as writing, spittin', producing.

ah, i've never liked JD's stuff.. but I would put them al on the same class as far as hits go.

I never heard it. I thought He pissed his pants after Dre got old school NWA on his azz. My favorite line is when Dre said

"over 80 million records sold, and I didn't have to do it with 10 or 11 year olds"

Classic.
