I'm about to get a Flash program for my Mac. I'm gonna learn how to do all that sweet stuff. But is it difficult? What's it like?

Yes and No

Depends on how far u wanna go with it. Checkout http://www.flashzone.com to see cool stuff people have done. They do that cool stuff by using a technique known as "flashscripting" or "actionscript". I'm getting into it myself.
but u also gotta get good at making basic stuff just look good in Flash. Practice design. Flash uses "layers" and "library objects" where you create a cool picture in the "library" and then drag it onto the stage as many times as you like, but create no xtra memory using stuff for people to download, (important on the web). Once on the "stage" you can double click on the "object" and change its properties, and if you choose "special" you can wig out the colour levels, and make it transparent, cool stuff.
Also Flash compresses ausio files and jpegs when it creates a so called "movie" or "swf". This compression is very good.
http://www.hillmancurtis.com has examples of kind of cool creative corporate stuff. Hillman Curtis was a creative director at Macromedia.

http://www.h73.com has links to heaps of cool stuff using some flash.

it quite easy to use, the tutorials are good that come with them and if ur in education its $150 with freehand9 or the full internet bundle is $300 or £200 :D

its easy to use, i love cartoons and how i started off, was to make my own short cartoons. Southpark like simple animation, to draw in its easier than photoshop, maybe its because i am crap at drawing

check in the web section for magical sites with flash

also the programing isn't too bad, i have difficulties now and again but its straight forward. 6 months and u'll be making good things in it

hey guys is Flash5 just heaps better than 4? Big learning curve to change? i ain't seen it yet...

flash 5

i upgraded to flash 5 about 2 months ago, and it is so much better than flash 4, the scripting has changed but you can still script in flash 4 style

all the panels are easily accessable as is your scripting window and in general the interface is a lot more intuitive

there is a hell of a lot more to it, have a look at http://www.macromedia.com/software/flash/productinfo/newfeatures/ for what's new in 5

as u can tell i quite like 5, so my advice is, if u can afford to upgrade to 5 do it!!

its easier but the sound editing is still sh*t that why u need to buy audio editor, over all better than 4, but i have seen screen shots of 6 :D

im taking a web graphics design class.....i hope i learn some flash...

its not even April yet  damn those jokers flashkit.com i am not going back there!

a friend of mine just cuts and pastes flashcode like a picture and says if it works u don't need to understand it, just know how to utilise it and move on, but i saw somethings at a coupla sites suggested by nook and was really inspired to be able to at least half get that under my belt. So to speak.

its very easy, even for a retard, i left computer classes at 14 because teacher was sh*t and i can use it effectively, so it can't be that hard, its all just learning :) well i like to know how things work

by the way....the web graphics thing im doing is at uc berkeley I think.....

Well the scripting stuff in flash is not so easy, only cut and paste existing sources doesn't make you progress. The thing is to find good tutorials and sources, study them very deeply, try to redo them on your own and adapt them to your
project. You'll learn very quickly and be able to make your own scriptings, and do innovative navigations and stuff. Flash is a wonderful toy for that !

Now Flash 5 scripting language is very similar to javascript, so learning javascript can a be a very good thing too because it'll be also very useful for html projects.

i have been reading "Javascript - The Definative Guide" by O'Reilly books, and yeah it seems very flash-scriptish.
I have done some projects from "Flash 4 Magic", but wonder if it is worth finishing off the last 3/4 of the book because maybe Flash 5 is different but hey it's all just learning,. But i think Flash5 has automated scripts or something? Aanyway, made a hot Happyhardcore Rainforest DripTrip Lounge song today, so yay.
But i've gotta get onto this Flash 5 thingo.
Will download some tuts from were-here.com today.
Although the Flash player has 93% market penetration, i wonder how long it'sa gonna be before the Flash 5 player is owned by most.
Hmmm. Cogitation, concentration. I wanna make a draggable music player in Flash!
Hokay. Get back to you guys when i achieve the dream, hehe.
PS-Flash4Magic has s*** graphics in its examples, yet seems pretty on the money in its code.
And the laughinator, - good script, but the project is so gay.

LOL u've used it... that famous 3 letter word ;)

yeah flash 4 magic is a good book.... also New Masters of Flash is good

true the examples in flash 4 magic are a bit sh*t in the graphics depart and how they can be applied to the real world but its useful learning

DOH!

another famous three letter word.

PS Is the New Masters Of Flash for Flash5 code?

It sounds like a really 'in' tut to get, kind of exciting esoteric knowledge or something.
