Is it bad to choose a chord progression on my song based on other songs

Sometimes I "steal" the chord progression of another song to use for my own songs. I'm not talking about one of those complicated, unique chord progressions that's only used in that song. I'm talking about those simple 4-chord progressions that are used by countless other songs. I usually do that when I think the content/meaning of my song would be well supported by the general vibe that a chord progression from another song gives. Do you think it's wrong or unoriginal to do that? Should I feel guilty? How do YOU usually decide which chord progression to use?

Of course it is okay. There are only so many possible chord progressions for certain emotions. Just make sure you are not copying the leads and other stuff that might resemble the unique work of someone else.

Check out this video on YouTube, it's hilarious!

It's definitely fine in my books, just try producing a different melody. If it's exactly the same then issues can occur so try and spice things up a bit with your own imagination. :D
