hiya folks!

Just thought I'd share my problem...So Recently I've been taking my singing more seriously and have been making songs based around it. I'll just make this short...

.I don't have a problem singing without headphones, when i'm jamming out with the keys or guitar I can feel my voice resonate with the chords i'm playing, i can really get into it and just have a good time....but when I go to record something just having the headphones over my ears really causes a problem, I end up singing flat on some notes were i'd otherwise have no difficulty with unless i strain, and that just overall ruins the point of recording the vocals....hehe....I think i've got to find a way to make my voice hearable in my headphones....I can't figure it out with my set up though...

I use a mw10 preamp (usb) with a dynamic mic(i know....hehe...I'm working on replacing that) and i can't configure it to pick up my voice in the head set.

but i'm just curious if there's any certain headphone brands, or recording equipment, methods, etc. on this subject!
thank you! lots of love!

damn i heard a few versions of that poplar sample, but thats the most unique i've heard it chopped.

Try recording with only one ear covered. Takes some getting used to but helps.

That's a really good idea, just pan the audio to one side.....thanks! haha!

any others?

oh, and wackazz thanks! :D

Are you using the "2TR in" to get your audio from the computer to the mixer (& onwards to your headphones)? Does routing the signal to the master mute everything else going there, because looking at the mixer it seems that you should be able to hear both your mic signal and the computer audio...

Ok that seems to get me better results, I'll give it a shot while recording it to an instrumental...I'll probably have to turn the instrumental down but it might just give enough to work with. :D thanks!

same problem here... cant sing at all with headphones, bcuz there is nothing wich will put me in a mood 4 that,so i start realy hard and after a while i start losing the progresion and the beat, and its simply not same singing wich i would do,with normal speakers...

The usual way to deal with this is to have one ear half covered by the headphones. This is a little better than having only one ear covered as you can hear the song better. You can adjust the amount of coverage to suit how your singing is being recorded. If you are well of tune with the phones fully on then try to have one ear only partially covered so that you can hear your voice through your mouth more as opposed to just through the monitors on the headphones.

yeah i can definitely understand that, I suppose the overall theme here is just learning to deal with it...hehe...I'm going to go through all of these ideas though, I'm sure one of them is bound to suit me good.

If not, I'm really considering just finding a good pitch fixer upper solely for getting through these recording sessions...hehe...

Pan? No panning. You are taking one earphone of to hear you voice live. The ear you have covered is just to hear the track your are recording to.

oh sorry i wasn't clear. I was thinking taking off one of the earphones, and just taking the volume out of that side so you didn't have the audio blaring out of it getting into your recording.

I use earbuds when recording (myself that is). Why? Because they barely block out outside sounds even when im listening to stuff. I can hear my voice pretty naturally. I never use input monitor to hear myself either it always messes me up. Hearing my voice coming from my mouth and not through headphones makes it easier for me to control volume, intensity and all that good stuff. I used to use some akg headphones with one ear off but since id have the volume loud so i can still feel the beat i got scared that ittl have an effect on my hearing in the long run.
