I started making beats like a year ago but I wasn't serious about it, I would make a beat every once and a while but recently I decided to take this beat making very serious and things were going good I was making decent beats on FL Studio and I even made partnership on youtube but 3 days ago I decided to start making trap beats because I really love them and producers like Lex Luger, KE on the beat inspired me a lot. So I started making the beats and came out with nothing, couldn't get a good lead or melody or nothing, I sat for hours and hours for the last 3 days trying to make a beat but nothing good came, everything was ether out of tune or just wack, and now I think I just got lucky with the melodies on my old beats because I don't know anything about music theory I just make random melodies and hope they sound good. Does anybody have any tips or advice what should I do? I'm not going to give up Il sit on FL for hours for the next week or month if I have to I just need to know how to make better leads and melodies and just understand more what I'm doing?

Stop tryin to force shit
Take a long break...you can afford to do that you haven't gone all in yet

I'd suggest learning some basic music theory too. Knowing chord progressions, song structure, etc, it's all invaluable.

Sometimes when i need some inspiration i'll just cycle through the synth presets and freestyle on the midi keyboard. You'd be surprised how quickly that can lead to a full track.

Also, don't try and copy Lex Luger too much. He's got probably the most copycats right now among aspiring producers, and you don't want to be lumped into that.

happened to me alot before, i just started getting new drums into my collection and vst's, learning music theory also helped me alot... chord progs ftw

best thing is a break for me. play some video games, watch tv. get some p$$$y. i always find my best ideas after chillin and letting the world give me ideas instead of forcing it to.

I kinda know hwo you feel lol and I can't help you at all, but I belive that listening to some music will give you some ideas. Do not copy anyone make your own rhytm, edit them, re-editm them, and re-do everything if it's out of the timing.

Ya look to other music to inspire you not to mimic it... just let your own sound come out

Keep making beats. learn from your mistakes, and focus. thats all i gotta say.

liftedCREATION here,

Orezeee, all music is going to be understood or misunderstood.

Try reflecting a bit on your life maybe you can channel your music that way. Sometimes we get into a rut and pulling out can seem impossible. The music is what let's us know where we are, who we are, what we are going through.

Also keep in mind that anything you try to do for money will be worth nothing. It's all from the heart.

Yeah i'd say just go back to enjoying music and stop trying to force it. Are you enjoying sitting down trying to come up with melodies and make trap beats? If not, stop. You shouldn't be trying to create if you're not having fun with it first.

Maybe because you wanted to get more serious with it your mindset has changed, and you've put more pressure on yourself music wise. It's good to have high standards for yourself and your music, but remember that music is ART, and great art always comes from passion and feeling.

If those two elements are not present it will be hard for you to enjoy what you're creating.

Also I agree with what was said above about learning some basic chords and scales. They will definitely help you get the ideas from your head across into your music.

You sound burnt out :\ I've been there, sometimes I really just can't think of anything creative to produce. Happens to the best man. Just let it all flow at it's own pace, forcing things like this only lead to disappointing results.

U might just need a little motivation or some kind of inspiration

Sometimes I find that when I'm too focused on making a specific sound I want to hear.. I ignore all the other amazing sounds that I'm coming up with.

I'm TELLING you...forcing yourself to do something is the worst thing you can do. I know exactly what you mean -- nothing sounds right and it's discouraging as hell.

Honestly, you just have to be like f*ck Lex Luger, I'm gonna make the music I feel like making. Easier said than done, but in the end you'll have some really really dope, original music.

All producers, just starting out, run into that problem. Like Yung said, don't force it! Let it happen. Sitting there for hours upon hours won't make it happen. You'll "just know" when something sounds right. Try to get inspired by other producers and study how they do it. Don't copy their style though. A lot of practice is what it takes to make good beats. You might have to make a 'skeleton' beat and come back to it. Just come up with some basic beat concepts and then build on them over time.

Hey Stuart. I really liked the article about the 15 ways to improve your music. I really like 2, 6, 8, and 12.
