How To Make This Freezing Effect?

I am tryin to improve myself at mixing and mastering but there is an effect that I could not find out how to do it or what is its name. In the link below you can find 3 songs that using this effect. At the beginning of the words there are some kind of freezing effect. I gathered them together and uploaded to Youtube. Pretty simple, put a thick reverb on the sample you want to freeze, render it, and reverse it;

this is a pretty short tutorial but honestly this guy even complicated it a little, you can do this in less than a minute
